hello all. i bought a set of RS6 reps for my A6 today.

I thought the seller said that one of the tyres had a split so i priced a replacement. As it turns out, he was saying wheel but i was hearing tyre:o . theres a crack on the inside of the rim which i discovered when i got home. the tyre is knackered as well.

the crask runs down the lip where the tyre meets the wheel and continues onto the flat area if that makes sense. it's about an inch and a half long in total.

    any idea if this fixable???

doesn't sound fixable, and not sure would ever trust it if someone said they could fix it.

With the low profile tyres that the A6 has with RS6 alloys, I wouldn't leave it to chance, just get a new wheel.

it's not that bad actually- i've actually measured it and its only about 3/4" long.

i've heard of people cutting and widening alloys, how come a wee crack can't be welded?

I would just get a new wheel, surely it can't be that expensive dude.

well you could ask around, would have thought it would nearly be cheaper to buy a new one. Are the wheels cast alu?

I would not feel comfortable driving a car with that rim even if repaired. One encounter with a pothole or even a speed bump could potentially weaken the structure of the rim again.

And that's weakening the structure of a rim that probably started off much weaker and softer than an OEM wheel.

i was ponted in the right direction by someone in the tyre trade. dropped off wheel at this specialist engineering place and told me the wheel will be 100% when they're done. €40.

they said they've repaired far worse and this kind of thing is common as muck. bit of a result.
