    Hi
I need help to sort out a production line. the line is split over two flloors and we want everybody to be able to see the piece they are working on in the line and to be able indicate when they are finished.
Its not high volume and the interface to allow them to say they are finished should be as simple as possible.
The info required is pretty limited, just type, status and destination.
Does not have to be computer based, but that will prob be simplest, any ideas for software?
    Thanks
    James

If you want the simplest thing imaginable, try giving every piece a colour flag, maybe with a number which goes above the station on the line where the item is. Maybe you could also have a second flag to go up for 'finished'. If it's really necessary, put CCTV cameras in that can see the flags and with screens upstairs and downstairs. On a board downstairs, write in what each colour and number corresponds to.

Is it a true production line? It sounds more like a bunch of separate stations (and nothing wrong with that). Or does stuff move along the line?

If you do it with a computer, you will have to put a computer at every station, or else people will have to walk over to the computer corner to update the status of items. If you do it with a computer, fastest thing is to get someone to write a simple database app - you could do this yourself in access, at least for a simple prototype.

    Thanks Antoinio
Its not really a true production line, more seperate areas of work, but the items are passed from one area to another. its the intereaction between the areas we are trying to capture.
Will look into the MS access idea, but their computers are windows 95!

If they already have computers, and they're windows 95, you probably need a little web-based program. but it is worth writing a little prototype in access.
