I would like to feel that a much-loved and cherished motor would go to a similar minded owner, tho i understand when you say ringing him up might be a tad too far..
What colour is your coupe ?

What was it like as an owning/driving experience?

Loved it loved it loved it.

    These old busses are incredible.
1974 : Power steering, electrics , ride like a magic carpet, quiet, super smooth auto box, makes many modern tin cans feel like just that, and its fairly quick considering the weight of it.

Merc dont build them like this anymore the engineering in these is a marvel.

It stared giving me trouble in the end mainly coz it went 3 months without even being started just sitting in the rain !

Not my out and out favourite driver cars but it made me smile every time I looked out the window at it.

I phoned the previous owner of my TR6 out of the blue once - about 10 years after buying it from him. Needless to say he was a bit shocked but delighted at the same time to see his baby was still in my hands and being looked after. I wanted to know the exact paint code/colour.

I have this car 14 years now and phoned again about something a few years back but he had moved house. :o

Lovely colour RobAMerc, and with the leather too. I'll keep an eye out for it.
Where was the guy from who bought it?
I met a guy from the MB club at a meet over christmas who has a (i think) '71 280SE, ex UK, metallic ruby kinda colour. Guy who he bought it off was very picky who he sold it to. Original owner had kept the car in a heated garage all its life, only about 80k from new on it. The guy from the club had to convince him he would treat the car in a similar fashion. He still gets christmas cards from the guy, tho i think they are addressed to the car :D

The PO of my new (old) merc wrote to all the other POs and I have letters back from some of them in the car's file.

It reminded me of those wristwatch ads - "you never actually own one - you just look after it for the next generation"

Will keep an eye out for your old baby, RobAMerc - where did the new owner live? And I agree with the others who said never get in touch with someone you sold a car to... :D
