First off thought this was a good episode. Gave it a 9 up there alongside Desmonds as the two best from season 3. I thought it was totally in character for Locke to blow up the station as he has done a number of stupid things due to his faith (or lack of it). Sayid as always the only one on the island who is governed by reason and with and interest to find out what going on.

Ben told them to go in a particular direction and they would be picked up. So I'd imagine they won't be seen again, unless of course we get to see another glimpse of the outside world (where the hell is Penny and her Arctic team?).

If I'm not mistaken I think the Others told Mike and Walt to take 305 degrees north which I think was the same compass direction that Sayid and co were taking in the last episode. Am I right about this?
If so does this compass direction have deeper meaning.

One thing I would like to understand.

Presumingly the hut was wiried with C4 so it could be destroyed if attacked by the Hostiles. So it was Dharma who wired it and set up the computer with the chess game etc. Both Mikhail and Klugh are Others (Hostiles). So 1)Did they know about the hidden instructions (77). 2) If so how? 3) If all the Dharma were killed then why still keep the hut wired with C4 - for what reason, especially as Ben sent them over to try and re-establish communications?

I was wondering the very same. I think Mikhail and Klugh did know about the 7-7 code as Mikhail put the knife to Locke's throat when he was about to push it and Locke said at the end he knew why Mikhail didn't want him to play the game and then the hut exploded.

As for how they knew, that's what confuses me. Are Dharma and the Others working with each other? Or maybe the "hostiles" are not the Others that we know? Or I guess it could be argued that during the so called purge they were told what would happen to the hut by Dharma guys who were there.

Why keep the hut wired with C4? Good point. I'm not sure. Maybe the Others didn't want to draw attention from Dharma. Or maybe the Others are working with Dharma.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought about these kind of things...

I think there was possibly some fail-safe, that if someone tried to disconnect the C4 that they would detonate... Only thing I can think of... (Maybe I watched too much McGuyver ;) )

One thing to note: The island heals Lockes spinal injury and lets him walk again, what does he end up doing? Destryoing the hatch he found.

Next, the island takes away his hearing as Locke loses faith in the process of destroying hatch 1. He regains his faith and ends up destroying hatch 2.

I think, from his perspective anway, the island wanted him to destroy the flame hatch. Think about it, the dharma video told him to keep pressing the button, this to locke was the island speaking to him. Now the dharma video tells him to press 77. This to locke is again the island speaking to him and so he obeys the island, whatever the consequences may be.

Fantastic episode. The best of season 3 so far and very season 2 - like!

Nothing really that hasn't been said before (haven't read all comments yet so don't get annoyed if I repeat anything anyone else has said!)

I liked Sayids flashbacks, as did I like other flashbacks from season 3, but like all flashbacks from season 3 (except Desmonds) it's repeating itself. I'm not all for "give me new information or don't give me anything at all" but something new about Sayid would have been nice. Cos we knew he was a torturer and we knew that he hates himself because of it. Still, it tied in nicely with the end - keeping Patchey alive.

The fact that they just stumbled upon this place was annoying - they always seem to do that...and you would think that Danielle would explore the island more after 16 years but no....

I thought it was a farm at first! But it's another Dharma station...I wonder how many more there are to go? Although all the action at the end was great, I thought it was best up until Sayid told Kate that he was an Other and after that it got very predictable. As soon as Locke was looking towards the computer I knew he was going to leave Patchey and he would escape. Very predictable. Locke could have easily played his stupid chess game while keeping an eye on him but nooooooooo.

Also predictable that if he pressed 77 the place would blow up - they shouldn't have shown us the explosives. It really annoyed me that it did explode (how many more hatches is Locke gonna blow up?!!!). The writers obviously did it as an excuse to why the Losties couldn't go back there, which would force them to give some more answers. At least Sayid got a map....

Liked the scenes at the beach - I thought they would have got Jin to play....:)

We will definately be seeing Michael and Walt again.

One thing I noticed though is that if Sayid lived in Paris then he presumably picked up some French. Why did he need Shannon to translate the radio message in the Pilot? It could just be a continuity error or maybe he wasn't there long enough to bother learning the language.

    Thoughts?

Or could it be when the writers were doing that dialogue, they had NO CLUE where the narrative arc would be in 3x11 ? And maybe they still don't ?

In a recent interview they said that we can rule out seeing them in S03.

Good episode all in all, but unfortunately they had to turn Locke into a total idiot for 20 mins in order to have the situation turn out they way they wanted it to. hopefully they won't do that too much to Locke as he was a good character.

Are we all being a bit harsh on Locke?

Remember, Sayid and Kate did not relay the information regarding the C4 explosive to him (how unusual for characters in lost not to share potentially vital information). So he was not aware that the place was wired to blow.

Now, imagine we had not been shown the explosive. Would we have assumed that by following Candles instruction and entering '7-7' that the station would blow up?

Also, regarding the delay between Locke entering the code, and the explosion, obviously there would be a delay to allow the person entering the code to evacuate the place.

    Just a thought?

Yeah the thought did cross my mind about the C4. We know Loche didn't know about the place being wired to blow but i think most people are annoyed about how Loche dosent seem to think before he acts anymore. I mean any normal person would have called Kate and Sayid into the room to show them what he had discovered before actually inputting 77. Instead Loche just follows what he is told to do. There is no communication before the losties anymore "or was there ever".

I do agree with the time delay though, it was to give the person time to vacate the house before it exploded.

If the flame station had been infiltrated by the hostiles i don't think anyone would have a chance to have a casual game of chess just to activate the manual override to blow up the hatch its a bit silly

Yeah i think the chess game was rigged a certain way to activiate the manual override cos patchy mentions that the game cheets, suggesting that you must play certain moves.

I know that but I'm wondering is it the same compass directions as the Others gave Micheal and Walt. Because we've seen (before the hatch blew up at least) that compasses don't work correctly on the island. It would have to be more than a coincidence that the two compass directions mentioned in the whole show would be the same.

The 3:05 in this case is one of those lost-coincidence things... It says "Lift up your eyes and look North", then at an angle to that but below it, it says "John 3:05"

And of course we know now it can be taken to be "go north 305 degrees John" (Which is at least how its been taken.)

But the "Lift up your eyes and look north" and "John 3:05" are seperate.

And it's not the bearing Michael and Walt were given, wasn't that 325?

    Fantastic !! gave it a 9 !!!
Great to see the real story get going again, and we get to see Eyepatch guy.

Great flashback with Sayid aswell, learnt more about his past, great
comedy moments between Hurley and Sawyer ... just great everything..
the only thing that annoyed me was after Locke typed 77, we didn't see the message!!! (or maybe it just exploded? -- doubt it though .. must have been some sort of message and now Locke is hiding it..)

Anyway at least now we know t'others are seperate from the DHARMA initiative ...

Oh yeah great line by Hurley after he creamed Sawyer in table tennis, " I used to play
a lot at the institu---ehh aww a place i used to hang out at... got really good "

    LOL!! :D:D:D:D

Also regarding seeing Micheal & Walt again, has been ruled out becuase actor that plays Walt is growing up,
i could see a big difference in him in that last ep of season 2 ...
so now it would look ridiculous.. unless they found a new actor to play him..

Isn't it possible that the bearing 325 that Ben gave Michael was in fact a trap? I mean giving him coords that lead him to the Other Island so he can be re-captured. Think of it logically, Michael had no food or water and had no idea how far he had to go in the boat or how long he would be travelling. I think Michael is with the Others.
