what do you mean by "pretty crap" ?
just because you have gigabit network cards doesnt mean that packets will transfer at a gigabit/sec, it could be limited by the cable's bandwidth

well it says connected at 1gb/s on each computer does that mean the cable is able for it?

Id be faster putting what i want on an external hard drive and then transfering it to the other pc.

    Is this normal?

    any help is greatly appreciated!
