Well I am going to go with the support our own boardsies campaign,

So Jon (http://www.pronutrition.ie/) have 2 6lb tubs of prox for €90 with free delivery

Mickk (supplement store on camden street ) sells EAS for around €50-55 (i think but phone number is in stickies if you want to confirm), and you can pick it up today

Easygainer (pm him) sells ON, can't remember price but as far as I know it is cheaper then those links,

So support you own, it also helps that they are also really good value aswell

EAS is €45 in Mickk's shop.

what flavors are in the promotion? Are they 2 x 6 lbs tubs, I can't seem to find this info on the site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,407 ✭✭✭✭justsomebloke

you can pick any of the flavours (that big whey comes in), basically when you are paying for your purchase there is a comments box in which you just stick in the flavours you want

Don't mean to thread hijack but I've a bit of a n00b question here: is there any major advantage to taking a protein shake like Big Whey over simply eating an 80gm tin of tuna?

Big Whey ProX Per 30g Serving has:

    Energy: 118kCal
    Protein: 22.88g
    Carbohydrates: 1.68g
    (of which sugars): 0.89g
    Fat: 1.64g
    (of which saturates): 0.55g
    Fibre: 0g
    Sodium: 0.0489mcg

While an 80gm tin of Tuna has:
    Energy: 93kCal
    Protein 20.4g
    Carbohydrates: 0g
    (of which sugars): 0g
    Fat: 0.7g
    (of which saturates): 0.2g
    Fibre: 0g
    Sodium: 270mg
    Calcium: 8.8 mg
    Potassium: 189.6 mg

    (link: http://www.calorieking.com/foods/calories-in-fish-canned-packaged-tuna-light-in-water-drained-solids_f-Y2lkPTQwNzAwJmJpZD0xJmZpZD03MDc3MSZlaWQ9MTI3NzA5MDc3JnBvcz00JnBhcj0ma2V5PXR1bmE.html)

From what I can see the Tuna has about 2g less protein in it and a much higher Sodium level but it's lower in calories and fat while also giving calcium and potassium.

I know this question's rather subjective depending on the rest of one's diet and training goals but for the average person looking to lose adipose and gain muscle aren't the two pretty equivalent? Maybe it's just a n00bs reticence to start ingesting powders and supplements rather than whole foods but to my mind the tuna seems the more 'natural' of the two?

    Hi guys,
Rocky, if you've any probs ordering on the site give us a ring here in the shop 018308673. We're running a NutritionX month this month and the special offers are there under the red writing on the homepage. When you order there is a comment box just add in what flavours you would like. Actually we just received some orders for Big Whey so it might be yourself!

    Sleepy,
In relation to Tuna Vs Whey. Tuna of all the whole foods has probably one the worst (or maybe lowest is a better word)Amino Acid profile when it comes to building muscle. Whey is naturally high in Valine, Lucine and Isolucine which are the amino's used for building and repairing muscle (also known as BCAA's) as well has having the highest BV of all protein foods.
So when comparing protein foods its best to compare the Amino Acid profile rather than just the quantity of protein available.
    Hope this helps some.
I know Trollybus is lurking so maybe he could add to the info here too!

    Jon

Man this sounds like the recent idea we've had in mine to turn a full english and a cup of tea/coffee into a brekkie shake at the weekend.

You can buy something Called 'Body fortress' in Holland and Barrett for 15 quid (On special offer at the moment but that stuff always seems to be on some kind of offer). Doesn't have the same amount of nutrients per scoop as the bigger names but it tastes nice and is dirt cheap.

ordered the two big whey from Jon @ www.pronutrition.ie on Wednesday afternoon. The two tubs arrived today with a free mixing bottle. Fantastic value and great service.
    Cheers

I make my own post-workout shake consisting of whey powder, glucose, maltodextrin, creatine ethyl ester, powdered BCAA's and flax oil. After a while it doesnt taste so bad..:o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,621 ✭✭✭yomchi

whoa! skip the flax post work out! Its a contradiction to the work of the dextrose. While the Dext is trying to speed up your delivery, the flax is slowing it down. Also no need for maltodextrin if you're using dext and if you're using a good protein powder you're just doublin up by using BCAA's at the same time.

MMM - Glad the stuff arrived nice and prompt! Hope it works well for you

Very impressed Jon, received the two tubs of big whey and shaker bottle this morning having only ordered it yesterday afternoon!

I take 10-15gs of BCAA powder straight after workout ie within seconds.
Then 15-20 mins later have proper PWO shake (whey and fruit juice).

45-60 mins after that have meal of some description - generally eggs and/or meat based, eg quiche, stir fry with egg fried rice etc

I got mine today (in Galway, meh)

Anyways, I tried my first scoop (ever!) and am wondering is is supposed to be this nice? sweet, like cocoa milk or something. It's the choc mint flavor btw mixed with 200 ml of skimmed milk.

Are you sure you're not putting us on Jon and give us pudding disguised as whey protein? ;)

Is that Nutrition-X whey? I have to say at first I was skeptical of the chocolate mint but it's actually very tasty.

Strawberry, nutrition x is nice. Chocolate on it's own not as good, must try the choc mint one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,977 ✭✭✭rocky

I find it very nice, the choc mint one. I also have a 6 lbs (?) vanilla tub, but have not tried it yet. If you say it's even better...

I think i will go for the choc mint as well, but what other flavour is nice, and not too acky tasting? strawberry or 'nanas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,621 ✭✭✭yomchi

Hey guys, believe or not choc mint sold out til tuesday!

The stuff is flying out, loads of banana and vanilla and chocolate left. Have to say the new chocolate flavour is really chocolatty!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 341 ✭✭Frankieboy

So I take it that Nutrition X Whey is still the best value?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,645 ✭✭✭Shrimp
