Alternatives to SkyHD Box

    Hi all,

    I am keen to find out if there are alternatives to the Sky HD Box. I know a subscripton to SkyHD is needed to get this service but is it necessary to pay €450 for a sky box? I am new to this thread so if "somebody in the know" could enlighten me I would be very grateful.

    Retailer in Crescent Shopping Centre in Limerick is selling the HD box for €299. He has been selling it at this price for the past few months.

    Only a Sky box will work for ANY Sky service. Only a SkyHD box for Sky HD.

    The only FTA channel is BBC HD trial. Note, TRIAL, not channel/service.


    A 37" or larger (48" recommended) HD TV required with NATIVE 1920x 1080 resolution. most "HD Ready" TVs are lower resolution and thus degrade the picture. Not too bad for USA/Japan 480 line market, but our ordinary TV is already 576 line, so a resampling, smaller screen is really a waste of money, except odly for ordinary TV (A non-HD LCD/Plasma is much poorer than a good CRT(tube), but an "HD Ready" LCD is nearly comparable to a good CRT for ordinary TV).
