seems i've stirred up a hornet's nest here, and first off, appologies, it was a bit of a

****ty day when i posted first, and i needed to rant, but to address some of the

    issues brought up:

i have traveled a bit of the world - spent 6 months working in an orphange in Romania

(helping repair it), spent a year and a half in SE Asia doing volunteer work,

    trekking and diving,
been in the army for a year and a half (national service),
i'm currently living in another country (ireland, i'm French - i've also lived in the US for 15 years),
i like to think of myself as a decent photographer,
i write short stories, (and have even had a couple published),
went to university (and what a drug, booze and floozy-filled three years that

was!) <i really love that word: floozy>
i don't really have a lot of friends, but the ones i do have are very close,
jesus? no thanks, buddah? muhammed? nope.
i've learned another language (english, ha!)
i try to be nice and fair and honest to people,

most of the time, i'm fine, and and can deal with all the ****ty stuff, but occasionally
i just need to re-ignite the spark, and find my next mission. sorry.

Obviously not ballsofire. Sometimes you can over think things. Sometimes the obvious simple answer is just that. Obvious and simple. If you're suffering depression you can get help. This forum is full of those who did and came out the other side better people. In any case exams are not the be all and end all of judging one's worth. In fact all they can do is tell your worth in the subject of the exam. Too many people with very high exam results fail to translate that into any sort of success or happiness. Which is an incredibly brave and hard thing to have to see your son go through. You and he made it through. Rightfully proud you should be.
Eh I'm dyslexic. Mathematical ability apparently a common trait in dyslexics. Sadly I didn't get that one. And given what you've gone through is a result to be justifiably proud. The OP should read your post. It may help.
I never said that. I was making the point that that poster regarded others as somehow lessor because they're not as "abstract" as him.
Ehhhhh. Dyslexic here. Your statement itself is saying that dyslexics can't argue their point, which is limiting them. In any event stupid is like beauty, in the eye of the beholder.
No,I became aware of you condescing attitude to people who feel low about themselves and over inflation is called "never sell yourself lower that they want to hear".
I found your post offensive. Look can you accept you were deliberately offensive? And if you say unitentionally, I would call you a liar. So go to reflect on you're own life, and check are you suffering superiority complex disorder. And there is stigma attached to that, yes. So hence I can understand your post about labels being stigmatic from my perceived experience of you. And you attack me for defending the insulted postee. And to me that says you like being right.
So correct me if I'm wrong, you were polite to the poster? And you left a creditable comment about my son, so I have respect for you, yes. Thankyou.:)
A little support from anonymous and non anonymous friends in life, is a large support; and I have respect for you Wibbs, but please be nice to others self beliefts.
Children play and have imaginary friends perhaps, and believe in their stories of play and fun, so to mock a child like mind is called being ignorant to others on a perceived different level of thought or maturity as you mentioned about his opinion changing as he got older.
Cancer is a disease I would never wish on anybody, and your sympathy is sincere I would hope. Because too many people, put on a face of sympathy and say "i'm sorry" without any real care to their word. So, if I'm a fool, I'm living a lie and from what you are saying, that poser is living a total shambles based on their self importance. And how do you know, that you're post will make them feel suicidal? That is possible, this is a personal issues forum and not for mocking replies of self delusion, maybe, but their self beliefs intended to help another individual they can relate to from what they believe they can.
So never judge replies in a sensitive area of this website, it's not a place. Online replies are 1 to themself. So mocking is ok in a jokes/puzzles/comics section; but personal issues NO NO NO it's overdose of pill to somepeople to hear your sort of reply. I'm sorry sir/ I was shocked by your attack on that poster. And being honest he was deluded maybe. But belived in his self worth no matter how ridiculous it sounds, that's called keeping a person confident and loving of themself and thats what some people lack so don't mock vulnerable deluded even.

If you're not suffering from debilitating depression and even if you are that hit's the nail on the head.

Depression is an illness, of all areas of you belief. Belief in your appearance as ok, belief in your family as worth living for, etc. Medication is 35 to 65 percent of the depression solution.
Alcohol, drug use, location of residence, friends, family, personal status, one's personality, one's looks, and A LOT of other people opinion are factors in a depressive episode. So, depression is inevitable but treating the bad episodes I would focus mostly on, but the minor ones make life debiliating and they include from my experience, the factors I've mentioned. So the person must be in a low state of mind, to think and reflect what are the reasons; and make the necessary changes.
I can't comment further I hope the individual in question gets help as required and best of luck to the person, as It's a horrible emotionless battle and I understand depression.

That's a pretty amazing list of things there. More than many. Fair play and no mistake. I reckon you have made your life and those in it far better by your actions.
most of the time, i'm fine, and and can deal with all the ****ty stuff, but occasionally

From what you list there, I'm thinking of looking to ignite my own spark. I suspect I may need a gallon of petrol and a match compared to you.

When you said "is this all there is" I stupidly jumped to the conclusion that you hadn't tried much. How wrong was I. Except for the momentary lack of direction you're doing alright. There's a bunch of kids in romania and SE asia that are well glad of your input. It's putting me to shame anyway. :)

Good luck with your new spark wherever you may find it.

There's more to it than this, right?

People will tend to gravitate towards a regular, mundane life. In reality, that's what most folks want and they'll work hard to achieve it. Think about it... although your life may not appear to be too extravagant, it's nice and stable. With a little extra effort or self-development on your part, you could probably raise your standard of living (or income), but what would that mean to you? An extra holiday with the missus... a nice new LCD TV... a new car maybe? From the sound of your original post, I don't think these things would provide you with any additional long-term happiness.

Personally, I don't believe that extensive travel or snorkeling are likely to improve your appreciation of life in the long term. Almost everyone I know has done 'the Australia thing' or 'the Thailand thing' at some stage, and they're no happier than I am. In fact, when they come back to Ireland they usually feel really depressed for quite a while. The lifestyle you have during extensive travel isn't really a realistic/sustainable one.

My own perspective on this leans towards "appreciate what you have, but don't compare yourself to those who are more/less fortunate than yourself". I think you might be surprised by how content you can feel with your situation, once you stop thinking "is this all there is?" and start thinking "this isn't half bad, is it?".

Sure, life does tend to be repetitive... that's basically because you don't have all that much to be worried about. To me, that's a pretty good situation to find yourself in.

That's called a quarter life crises. I never watch Tv and i never let cars crash my life either. I never failed my driving test to need to luas, You may have got rejected by a filling station type job like me but I don't hold grudges on so called crap jobs.

If my dad had a high paying job, aka invented idea based on elated ego of ones social status; I suppose I'd consider killing myself over him calling me a dunse.
And that's your mentality. And I'll consider you a success sir/man, if you consider the people you have classed in your post as worth living the rest without hindrance to sterotypes or bias.
Did you kill your cat for a thrill ever? That's morally wrong, but killed by a man of a high paying job, does that consider the cat wrong and him right to satisfy his high stimulation of cat murder? Just an example don't comment on the stupid example as I'll question you'r motive to do so.
And a failed driving test is why some walk not drive. You sound rich, middle class.
failed driving test, 2nd time I don't think so!
So I walk to walk, maybe.
You watch Tv, i know you're lying; im guessing :p.

Never judge a clown by their tricks if you don't laugh, question you're humour first, as not all clowns are funny as not all entertainees are dry or wet rags. So you decide how you take others, but don't force your opinion on others without considering the effects first.

You're agnostic yes, so Jesus is nobody to you so why do you care to mention him if you're agnostic!

Erm OK. My post was meant for OP, not annoying gnat. The Jesus thing was sort of meant as a bit of a joke. The concept of Jesus is not lost on me though, so he is not entirely nobody to me. Where do I even begin to force my opinion on anyone, I don't know. I only state them.
All I meant by my comment was that many many people(including middle class me and *probably most users of boards) unfortunatley distract ourselves by the entertainment and releases that telly and internet provide us with, that we are forgetting the simple pleasures like 'smelling the roses'
We are bogging ourselves down with information, I like to call it truth seeking, but much useless information gets filtered through as well (ie Halle Berrys bra size)
It's no wonder when one becomes introspective they often think 'What the F... is it all for'?

*=I'll try not to make too many assumptions and generalisations.

As for the whole travelling thing, not much point if you don't challenge yourself anyway., you'll probably find yourself stuck in the same sort of ruts.
