Have pointed my satelite to astra 2, looking for free channels. Can't get any of the bbcs, itv, channel four etc (have qvc, zeetv, sky news, cnn+other rubbish). Have Triax dvb and universal LNB and an ol' dish.

Am I on the right sat?

Do I have to tune the bbcs etc in manually? after auto search, they appear on screen but picture blank and no signal or scrambled comes up on screen.

Whats the difference between free to air and free to view?

How many satelites are up there:confused:

You are not pointing at astra 2 so you need to realign your dish

So, after auto-search they do get tuned in, but you can't view them?

If they're tuning in during a scan, then you must be on Astra 2, but signal is very weak.

    exactly.....

Is hot bird and astra two the same satellite?

Eh, no. The Hot Bird sats are at 13 E, Astra 2 is 28.2E Don't forget the box may already have the BBC channels stored, so they will show up in the listings, but you won't get them unless your dish is pointed at the right Sat.

The three strongest satellites are Hotbird (13 East) Astra 1 (19 East) and Astra 2 (28 East -the one youre after)

There are dozens of other satellites but most of them wont be detectable on a small dish

The BBC & ITV are FTA (Free to Air)
C4, Five, FiveUS, Five Live and Sky 3 are FTV (Free to View), and need a UK once off purchase card in a Sky Digibox (only). Card only sent to UK addresses.
