It's a Dutch word for an 'intern' or someone on work experience during a college or university course.

EDIT: also seems to be a French word, but I first came across it in the Netherlands.

A "stagiaire" is a french word to define a student that is contracting for a few weeks/months in a company (Sponsorship) to accomplish a specific task that is relevant to his/her current study or diploma or end of diploma report.

A stagiaire is usually not paid (But if he/she is will be paid almost nothing) and is supposed to work within an agreed contract to do some pre-defined tasks.

But many companies in France are actually getting stagiaires to do all sort of work during summer time because it is free manpower. So many of them are actually abusing them.
