Roland Cube question

    Hi guys
I spent a nice hour or so in a new music shop near me on saturday, and played through this roland cube 30X. I went in to look at guitars (think there may be a need for a new electric since the 25 yr old axe is showing signs of wear & tear) but came out with GAS for this little amp.
I need an amp for gigs though and was wondering if anyone has used these live, or are they just practise amps.

Personally, I see the cubes as practice amps. I'd be more inclined to go for a Line 6 amp if I was looking for a giggable modelling amp.

Line 6s modelling technology is better than Roland/Boss's, so if I had to use a modeller live, it would be a Line 6.

The microcube is cheap enough that you could buy that as your practice amp and get something different altogether for gigging.

Theres no footswitch but ive got great results DIing a microcube... not live mind.. It sounds a hella lot better DI'ed through some nice monitors than through the little onboard speaker

The Line6 may be superior to the Cube, but there's no way you're going to convince me it's superior to the GT8/GT-Pro.

Ive actually got a GT8 (and love it), but I can still say that Line 6s amp models are better (in my opinion).

I got the GT8 for the effects routing and not the models - if i needed a processor to 'create' my guitar sound, i'd swap it for a Pod in a second.

That's a pity. I've used a Pod Pro, and got rid of it as soon as the GT-Pro came out and I'd played one. It's so easy to dial in an amp and cab using a laptop and usb, you can literally drag the amp, cab, pedals all in line, and play with their routing. It's vastly more powerful than the Line 6 in terms of processing ability.

Nah, i dont mind at all, i knew before i bought it that i didnt want it for the amp models. I leave the preamp section turned off all the time, except for headphone practice, and the odd bit of recording.

Everything else it does is brilliant, one of the best bits of kit ive got.

I guess thats close to what I'm thinking of - using a DI to go through a PA or something like that. I wonder is it possible or would it sound like sh1te?

No it would sound decent... its great as simple digital preamps go... Just run the line out into a stereo line channel on your mixer... i think the FX on the cube are stereo... its line level too so no need for a DI box
