My sister is having her 21st at the weekend and i am supplying the drink, someone suggested vodka jelly, i have never made the stuff before so i am looking for tips. Cheap or dear vodka, how much vodka, what to make it in ect. It needs to be strong though and there are about 30 people going to the party.

Go with the cheapest vodka you can find, no ones really going to be appreciating it if it's in jelly form with flavours.

I've never actually made it before, but google threw up this:
The basic recipe is just that - very basic. Make up a packet of jelly, using between a quarter and half of the amount of water suggested. Top up with as much vodka as you like (or can handle).

And here's a more detailed article:

Cheers sean, but i have done all the google stuff and a lot of people are saying its trial and error, the only problem is that i dont have the time to make a few batches. A lot of people are saying that the jelly doesn't set properly and there left with a syrupy mess that does the job but looks awful, im really looking for things that i should avoid doing. Also anybody try the skittles in vodka?

skittles in vodka is great but take out the green ones.

As for the jelly, melt the jelly you need to forget bout 1/3 of the water it says on the packet.
    Forget 1/3,
heat 1.3 at boiling point to melt the jelly,
the remaining 1/3 have it in the fridge over night or in the fezzer to bring th temp right the way down or even better
turn it into ice cubes and when the boiling water jelly mix starts to get to room tempature
add in the icecubes or very cold water as soon as the ice melts pour in the vodalkthe mixture into
what ever container or icecube trays you are going to use.
Make sure that the vodka used is les more the then 1/3 of water you left out.

Lime, blackcurrent works well this way the lemon and strawberry can be a bit full on flavour wise.
Oh and do it the night before.

Thinking of doing this for an upcoming stag. How many bags of skittles and why not the green ones?

75cl bottle of vodka add I bag of skittles.

they sour the flavour so you are not drinking the rainbow.

I thought it was cause the green ones made it a ****ty brown colour?

Ah... god damn it... I wrote a big 7 paragraph post just after the OP put this up, but obviously boards had a technical woopsie.

For the craic... forget the water, make the jelly with jelly cubes and vodka. Magic yet strong. Ugh, actually, I'm not bothered writing this, my original post had 4 differant recipes and included tricks involving Haribo :(

Thanks for the help guys. The jelly is in the fridge and looking good, i used a litre of vodka with 2 packets of jelly enough to fill 6 fairly big ice cube trays, seems to be setting ok. For the skittles i got 10 of the small packets and divided up the colours, i ate the greenies. Then i got 3 litres of vodka and split them up between 4 bottles and topped each one up with the different coloured stittles. Took about a day to dissolve the skittles leaving a white gunk in each bottle. I used a t-shirt to strain off the gunk. Looks good but it still tastes a lot of vodka but with the party tomorrow night they'll have to do. Will update on the effect on saturday if im able !!!
