What to buy?

I'm managing a new project at work, and I have a budget for some new equipment. I have set aside a budget of €1.5k - 1.65k (approx) for a new laptop for myself. Typically we would order Dell equipment at work, but I have been looking farther afield trying to find the best I can for my money, but I now need your help.

    My requirements are as follows...
    1. Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 1.83GHz+
    2. 2048MB RAM (667Mhz preferable)
    3. 15.4" screen (at least 1440 x 900 resolution)
    4. 120GB+ Hard Disk (5400 rpm is ok)
    5. Decent Battery Life (suitable for long periods of desktop application use, not so much games or DVD)
    6. Lite enough, a mobile laptop, not a brick (hence I'm not going for a 17" screen)

I plan on either dual booting XP-SP2 or Vista with Ubuntu Linux. I am well impressed with some of the desktop advancements in Linux (Xgl/Compiz/Beyrl) and would like to be able to run these in ubuntu. I have heard people having trouble getting it to work with ATI cards (driver issues), so that leaves me with nVidia (or has all this been sorted out?). For example I have found some beautiful Sony Vaio laptops which satisfy all requirements above, but only have 1280 x 800 res screens (this is absolute pants, and don't want anything that low).

The other laptop that I was looking at was the Dell 640m. I was able to build a spec very close to the above, but without the dedicated graphics card. This laptop would be great, but if I was to go for it, would I be able to run the new desktop stuff in linux on an integrated graphics solution.

    What would you buy/do?

I would really appreciate any help you can offer at this stage!
