Got an 8Gb nano for christmas and I'm still trying to work it out. Is it possible to set up your own folders within itunes and then stick them onto the ipod, or do you have to arrange them by giving them different tags, ie rock, pop or by different album names.

    Cheers

One thing I hate about iPods is that. As far as I know, you can install a third party firmware to allow file tree browsing:) don't know what, but I'm sure somebody else will be able to help.

Check out rockbox.org and see if they have anything? If so, get it as rockbox is the best firmware there is:cool:

Just had a look at rockbox, unfortunately I have a 2nd gen nano and the firmware doesnt work on them. Thanks for the info though.

I just create playlists in iTunes for example "Rock" and drag my rock tracks into it. Then when syncing the iPod the playlist is copied over and can be selected on the iPod.

A step further is to use Smart Playlists to automatically sort your music into different genres. I have 10 of these in all covering different decades - 80's, 90's etc., Irish, Chart etc. etc. When I add a song to the library I put the appropriate genre in the genre tag and add it to the library. The Smart Playlist then sorts the lot out, very useful !!
