Sky + problems

    I have recently encountered a few problems with sky + and i was looking for some help. The problems are:

    1. I have had a few failed recordings due to a technical fault with the channel concerned

    2. The live pause feature does not work correctly. Once i press the pause button nothing happens for 10 - 15 seconds. Then when the tv programme does pause, pretty much every feature on the remote is cancelled out. The only way to exit the pause is to turn off the box and turn it on again.

    3. The live rewind feature does not work correctly either. It's the same type of problem as above.

    There are no problems when watching recorded programmes because all the features on the remote work correctly. Can somebody please give me some advice?

    Have you tried a full reset of the box? It will wipe all your recordings though.

    Cal.

    P.S. Try this:
    doing the full system reset up till now but that takes a few minutes. I found a quicker way to do it today:

    * enter service menu (Services, 4, 0, 1, Select)
    * Sky+ Planner Rebuild
    * wait a minute or two while the screen goes black and it feigns death
    * enjoy more Sky

    It still takes a minute or two but you can do it from the remote (e.g. laying in bed), you don't have to pull the power.

    about every two or three days recently our box is freezing and the message 'There is a technical fault with this channel. Please try later' pops up.
    The fix so far has been to plug the box out from the mains and back in.

    The box is 6 weeks old....should I be looking for a replacement box?

    Yes. 1 year G'tee. But it could be a bad install/dish alignment

    Hi

    Just wondering, is Sky+ worth the extra dosh ?

    - considering:

    * Installation €75
    * Kit €149 ( & I think this is for the lower level of memory, there is a more expensive hard drive)
    * Monthly sub increases by €15 per month

    Many thanks

    Thanks,

    G.

    It will be the best money you have spent in a long time. It creates your own TV channel only showing the programs you choose. You select the things you like, set a series link and forget about it. No more checking the clock in case you miss your favourites. If you want to catch a movie on Box Office just set it to record. If you don't get to watch it within 5 days (I think) it deletes itself and credits your account.

    Hi Cal

    Thanks for that. The idea of being able to record, skip adds "pause live TV" etc do certainly appeal - though the idea of paying Sky even more dosh, does not. They are already getting about 65 quid a month from me.

    Must I keep it connected to the phoneline - I know Sky have always insisted you need to keep any sky box connected, but my current Sky box works fine without any phone connection. Mess of phone wires is another thing putting me off tbh.

    Cheers

    Thanks,

    G.

    As you're paying 65EUR per month, I assume you're subscribing to all the Premium channels like Sky Sports and Sky Movies?

    If so, then the Sky+ fee of 15EUR per month does not apply to you. Sky+ recording fee is waived if you have 2 or more Premium channels.

    As part of the T&C, the Sky+ needs to be connected to a landline (for 12 months I think). You could consider a Wireless phone extender (about 100eur or less).

    Hi

    Thanks for the info, Sky never mentioned the 15 quid per month being waived when we spoke to them - might give them another call and follow up on this as that does help a bit alright.

    As for the wireless phone extender, sounds the bizz - thanks. I take it I can get one in Peats etc or am I better to buy it online ?

    Thanks again

    Thanks,

    G.

    Simply run a temp line to your Sky + Box and activate your card using the callback feature and then disconnect the line. This will work fine, simply connect the line once in a blue moon..

    However if u used Multiroom u will need to keep line connected at all times.

    Regards,
    Steve

    Can I clarify this, are you saying this does the same job as unplugging the sky box etc. without losing any recordings? It would be so much less trouble.

    Yes, it resets the box. Just avoid the Full System Reset, as this is a wipe out of all recordings!
