Hi Guys, gonna be purchasing one of these, and with both of them (in refurb store) around the same price, which would you go for? I'd be leaning towards the macbook pro, is there much difference in performance between teh cd or c2d's ? cheers for any replies

Personally I'd go for the macbook pro. There is a difference in performance, but it's only really noticeable when you're running something very processor intensive afaik.

I'd probably go for the MacBook Pro. The performance difference will be more than offset by the sweet graphics card in the MacBook Pro.

thanks for the replies. Just priced the extra memory etc from crucial, and its expensive, maybe the refurb's not as good value as it seems! gfx card wont matter too much, its just gonna be used for design, and most likely hooked up to a bigger monitor in the office

Depends on whether you want a 13" or a 15" laptop TBH.
MB needs the little dongle for external video; remember that.

Also, the HDD in the MB is easily user-changeable, so that's something to consider.

If you don't choose the C2D you won't be able to use the native 64-bit goodness of Leopard when it is released, AFAIK.

ok thanks for the replies!. How would a macbook pro compare to an imac performance wise? am i losing speed due to it being a laptop?

Nope, but it's a laptop, hence the premium! ;)
The rev.A MBP had an underclocked GPU apparently; but that's no longer the case.

*edit* Actually, there's a *slight* performance difference -- the MBP uses a 5400rpm HDD, the iMac 7200rpm. Don't think you'd notice it much though.

thanks for the info. most work will be going on an external drive anyway, so no worries about the rpm ;)
