New Mac coming from Singapore

    Hey,

just wondering if anyone else has seen this. I ordered a new Mac on Monday and it shipped yesterday. Apple provided me with a tracking code from the courier TNT so i could track the package. According to TNT's website it's in singapore at the moment.

I just thought this was kind of strange as TNT have office's in Cork and Apple has a manufacturing plant in Cork also?Surely orders made on apple.ie for shipment in Ireland would be made in Cork?

Has anyone else had this experience?

Also does anyone know would i be subject to import duty saying its coming from Singapore even though i ordered it on Apple.ie?

    Thanks all.

Shouldn't this be in the Mac forum?

I don't *think* Apple manufacture in Cork any more. Certainly my PowerBook was made in Taiwan. If you want to know all about your machine, including where it was made, get the serial number (Apple menu, About This Mac, More Info) and enter it here:

I think it might get a better response over there.

It is an interesting one, though. If you order in good faith from an Irish website, but your product is shipped from outside the EU, that raises interesting questions on VAT and import duty.

No, the Vat is certainly included in the price on the Apple site, and I've never been charged duty; I assume that's dealt with by Apple within the price.

Thanks guys for the replies. I was just hoping that when they said it was shipped yesterday that i'd have it by friday as i thought it was coming from Cork :( - ah well. Next week it is.

    Thanks again.

It's perfectly normal, I've ordered from Apple many times over the years and have never had anything ship from Cork or even the UK for that matter, most things have come from Luxembourg. My BTO iBook came from Asia.

Anyway I've always found TNT to be very efficient so you shouldn't be waiting long.

Thanks sad_professor for the update. According to TNT the current status is "Consignment Received At Transit Point" since 10am yesterday so fingers crossed it arrives soon. Was hoping to have it by the weekend.
