    Hi all,
does anyone know if 'Letters..." will be on general release, or will it be select screenings only? I went to see "Flags.." and would like to see the second part to this tale.

    Cheers

So far I've only seen it playing in the IFI and Cineworld which would suggest that it's select screenings only. But Pan's Labyrinth opened first in the IFI only, and then went general, so it may get a general release yet.

I notice all the magazines giving it reviews the last while yet it's not been released. This is one I want to see, and not just see but see it specifically on the big screen...Flags was an excellent film.

Yea, i thought Flags was very good too. Like most, i was familiar with the iconic photo of the flag-raising, but not of the background of the guys involved. I read some of the reviews before it came out, and learned that Eastwood is a very economical director, most likely one take will do for a scene. And i applaud his use of little known actors in Flags (ok, one or two faces you would recognise, but no bigtime charlies), hopefully i'll get to see Letters on the big screen somewhere

Watched Letters From Iwo Jima today. Found it very good. I haven't seen Flags of our Fathers, so can't compare it to it's sister movie.
So memorable scenes. About 2.5hrs long, but flies by. Really enjoyed it. Got released last week over here.

You're in NZ rabies? Whereabouts? An uncle of mine lived in Napier, got over twice to see him and tour round, fantastic place..

Saw it at the film festival.
    Beautifully shot.
Worth a watch, some harrowing scenes...it's very much an anti-war movie.

Saw the movie last night at the IFI. Brilliant movie, and very different from 'Flags'. Tho i enjoyed the first movie, it seemed almost a mainstream Hollywood effort compared to 'Letters'. Not without moments of humour too, not something one would expect of such a movie. Thumbs up here.

I honestly wasn't impressed with "Flags of our Fathers" but, to my happy surprise, "Letters from Iwo Jima" was much better. It was more effective in showing how ordinary people were caught up in the war and the harrowing battles they fought.

Some very memorable scenes in it, most particularly the distressing
suicide via grenade to the stomach
scene. Well worth watching and deserving of its Best Picture nomination (should have won ahead of "The Departed").
