Got me a job interview Monday for CISCO's new R&D place in Galway.

Applied for the Software QA engi. Didn't really like the look of the sw dev job.

    An hour long tech interview.

Any ideas on what to expect or to prepare?

    Thanks.

The bother had an interview a bit ago, except he was going for a Network Engineer role. Lots of questions about network/computer architectures, C/C++ programming even stuff about security protocols and cryptography, he had it all down on his application though. He said it was fairly gruelling, he's shít hot though so he wasn't caught out when they went into detail. He was surprised that there was none of the usual HR bull**** like teaming working and interpersonal skills, etc.

Don't know if that's the sort of thing you'd be going for. The only advice I can suggest is that you know your CV/Application form backwards and prepare in advance how you'll talk about things on it.

Let us know how you get on.

Try this thread, could be useful.
Also if you pm CerebralCortex he might answer a few of your questions, he doesnt spend a lot of time on boards, so if you do give me a pm to and ill make sure he checks his account.

Well, I find it hard to judge interviews.

I know there was one or two things I bloody well stumbled over and maybe a couple of things he seemed impressed with.

*shrug* Could go either way, I dunno. :-/

I'm not trying to be a pedant, I've a genuine interest in this thread.

A lot of people would assume that high level means simple. If you were going to discuss a subject in depth, you would be discussing it at a low level. At least that's my understanding.

I know this sounds like smart-arsery, but I just wanted to be clear on what you meant.

"high-level" to my mind would be analogous to macro and implies experience in many disciplines with the ability to bring those skills together.

From a programming perspective, high level would mean less detail.

Got a call for a second interview on Monday at the Galway office.

Guess I didn't do too badly!

Firstly, the directions they give to the office are bloody vague to say the least. Musta spent 45 mins running around the tech park :(

One guy again interviewing. Head of system testing, american guy. Went thru what I did on coop again, asked some tech question relating to c++ [which I may have bluffed thru but prolly didn't] and to TCPIP but he said 'command' and that threw me right off the bat.

What skills do I bring, why cisco; usual crappy HR questions.

Finally he went thru the sw lifecycle in dev testing. Crazy ****ing testing by cisco.

Not expecting anything more from then tbqh. Well surprised if I do.
