This is up a day early as i don't know if i'll get a chance to post it before it's airing. Couple of notes:

    (i) I sincerally REALLY hope this is better than last week's.
(ii) The name in the title: "Tricia Tanaka" - does that remind anyone else of the Asian anchorwoman in 'Family Guy'? Think she's Tricia Takanawa though! :D
(iii) Special guest star this week is Cheech Marin (of Cheech and Chong fame). Not gonna reveal who he plays as it'll suggest whose flashback the episode revolves around, and some people prefer not to know that until airing.

    Anyways, enjoy the episode all!

Sorry but I think this was without a doubt the worst lost EVER in the Entire 3 series. It just answered NOTHING and asked NOTHING. so dull. hope it picks up.

ah well long live lost least we have prison break and heroes.

Personally I thought this was a great throwback to the first season, focusing on the beached Losties and one person overcoming their own personal issues.
Definite return to form, something this season's been sorely lacking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭ElNino

I agree that this episode was a throwback to season one in that it concentrated mainly on one character in the flashback and on the island. The story didn't really progress at all but it was nice to have a quietly paced episode for a change.

I loved Sawyer and the head :D:D:D and it was good to see Hurley's luck changing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 654 ✭✭✭DS

It was 100% pure filler, but it was better as an episode than last week's. Last week had plot development but at such a painstakingly slow pace that an episode like this where you know you're not gonna get a juicy plot twist is much more enjoyable. It also kind of vindicates Lost as a show in that it can pull off a good filler episode, and behind all the uproar about wayward plots and unanswered questions, Lost is a quality show with strong characters and good actors.

    Pure filler as already mentioned.

Enjoyable tho. I like Hurley and it was a nice change tbh.

Obvious where Kate was going tho.
I was under the impression there was another island so is Kate mistaken about the camp?

Gosh, I really enjoyed this episode! And even though, as has already been said, the story didn't move on that much (except for the last 2 minutes, which was a leap forward), the episode had lots of humour, and was well written.

I loved Hurley's Mum covering the golden Jesus' ears before she told him that she was about to have sex for the first time in 17 years.:D And Tricia Tanaka's death was particularly spectacular; they must have had some money left over from the plane break up CG's.

But the island was fun too. Jin and Sawyer made a great double act, particularly Jin learning to say that those pants didn't make Sun's ass look big (as if!). And we saw everyone, except Jack, and after last week that was probably no bad thing. And another Dharma mystery planted with Roger the workman and his VW campervan.

And FINALLY, Rousseau learned that Alex is in the Other's camp. It must be well hidden if she has never managed to find it in 16 years... No doubt our trusty band of Losties will have it sussed within a couple of weeks, thanks to Mr. Eko's parting gift.

Hope next week keeps it up; it sounds like it should.

Was it meant to shock us that Alex is Rousseau's daughter, didn't we know that for months???????

    enjoyable filler...

    ahhhh.

    Some great lines from sawyer

    Hurley: Shut up red....neck...guy

    Sawyer: Touche.

Thought Hurleys backstory was interesting. It remindded of the course correction we hear in Desmonds falshback. It's like Hurley was never meant to win the lottery and the universe is course correcting everything he does wiht his new money.

It was filler as mentioned but it was nonetheless enjoyable. It felt like a season 1 episode. It had some comic moments and lightened things up a bit after the rather depressing start to the season. Despited nothing really being answered again,I enjoyed this episode more than the majority of episodes this season.

Great Episode, I've given it a 9, ok it didn't move the story on to much besides Rousseau (is it me or has she put on some weight since we last saw her, the face is filled out) hearing about Alex, I had forgotten all about Rousseau! I wonder when she trapped Henry did she know him from before? Is Henry really the father of Alex?

Anyway great to see the lad's enjoying themselves, Hurley had some great line's loved the Skeletor Quip and calling Charlie Jimmeny Cricket :)

Had to also Laugh at Cheech and how they tried to make him look 30 something at the begininng.

I think this episode was more like an episode out of Season 1, with a decent backstory about a likeable character like Hugo.

Only downside to this episode was we had to endure a minute of the crappy newbie couple, who I can't stand.

    Snake :)

I have to say I enjoyed this episode, much more then last week thankfully.

It was 1 of the funniest episodes of lost so far, Sawyer was on top form. Hopefully, they do more stuff with him and Jin, they make a great comedy act.

I knew Kate was going for Rousseau but least she finally finds out Alex is her daughter. I can envisage some sort of great escape plan to get Jack out.

All in all I will give it a 7

I can't really say a lot that hasn't already been said. I didn't want to like this episode due to lack of progression, but it was just a nice charming character episode.

Despite the fact that the story didn't move on much I really enjoyed this episode, simply because it was one of the funniest episodes of Lost yet. The writing was brilliant.

    Roger Workman! :D

Hurley mentioned the meteorite hitting Mr. Clucks way back in the premier of the second season and it was cool to see it in the flashback. I'd give this one an 8 or 9.

I for one don't think that the story *has* to move on every week like a lot would like and maybe even expect. It was a filler but I'd prefer to have a bunch of fillers with great lines from Charlie and Sawyer than last weeks episode where there was more plot-building than tonights episode.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,195 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yes.. it was filler but was very enjoyable!

My personal favourite line: "Drink up Skeletor!" Oh, how i laughed! :D

Very very enjoyable filler but hope it's business as usual next week.. we need some action which has been sorely lacking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭L31mr0d

    7
eh... hmm, I thought it was filler but was very enjoyable, has that already been said? :D Maybe we are just drones :P

Seriously though, I do agree, great episode. Good flow, excellent dialogue and some humanity, thank god, humanity... it's been sorely missing in this season with the characters moving from one death to disaster and acting like it didn't affect them at all. I also thought that Hugos dinner of Burger and chips with Lasagne is sheer genius, I now have a new favourite meal :D

I also wish I hadn't read the new LOST theory thread in this forum, I noticed all to well this episode how Kate is calling Sawyer James now... is she becoming self aware?

I do wish however that Charlie and Desmonds conversation wasn't interrupted, looked like Desmond was going to explain something important to him. Also it seemed very odd that Sayid needed to ask about if the others have a boat, I mean they stole his boat? Plus i'm hoping they don't step over it, but those blueprints in the back of the van have to be important, as i'm guessing if they where building roads, they had to go somewhere, namely all of the bunkers across the island.

Also maybe i'm missing something, but what do Locke and Sayid know? What clue did Eko leave them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,276 ✭✭✭damnyanks

Where the sun was shining or whatever gave them a point of direction. No idea really

Trailer for next week shows them bumping into the lad in the other outpost. I'd love to think we'll get somethin informative out of it but will take 3 episodes probably.

    I gave it a 9!

As was already said, many times, not much plot progression, just solid character story :)

Very funny at times, thats the first time in a long time I actually LOLed at Lost! :D I was really grinning and laughing along with the guys as they got bumped around inside the van after gettin it started :D A real kinda "feel good" episode! Which leads me to think theres dark times a-looming for the losties, as previous "happy end" episodes were followed by some episodes where things were kinda grim...

My favourite line... "I like chicken...?" :D

And think we all knew Kate had gone off to get Rousseau, and that Locke and Syed would go after her.

I think this was a great episode. Sure we learnt nothing that we didnt know already, but it was filled with great TV moments. The return of kat and sawyer, the beer run van, driving around in the van...Just great stuff. Just because they dont awnser anything doesnt mean it isnt a good episode. Oh and i think roger will come up again later...

    Worst. Episode. Ever.

Sick of Sawyer's one-liners. Sick of Sawyer/Kate. Sick of Hurley's bad luck.

And as mentioned, was Alex being Rousseau's daughter meant to be a shock?! How the hell can they end an episode with that, when we all bloody well knew it anyway.

I think the "shock", really wasnt a shock to be honest, was telling the french chick her daughter was an other.

Yet another 42 mins of crap. maybe someone can answer a simple question, why does lost need a filler episode ? have all plot lines been exhausted, have all questions been answered ? I bloody think not ! Did we need 40 mins of Hurley, although a good character, harping on about his bad luck yet again, it could have been done in 2 scenes if you ask me, not an almost full episode. Im actually quiet insulted with the makers of lost, give them a feel good episode ! if i want feel good ill watch a rerun of friends, not "The hottest show on tv"

And someone should show tubs how to jump start a van.... does not take half a mile before you pop the clutch, but then again, were stupid, where would the drama come from ?

Hmmm. It was better than last weeks offering anyway. In fact, to borrow from the show, it creates hope for the future episodes. I suppose it's been mentioned before, but I quite like how the Lost writers got away with not having to sign contracts with brand name companies - just slap a Dharma logo on everything :).

Did anyone else first think that the arm that Winston was carrying belonged to Desmond (because the key looked similar to the "fail safe" key)? Now that would have been really interesting and a part of me is disappointed that it wasn't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,854 ✭✭✭Sinfonia

I think this episode made the show as a whole a bit more realistic.
It gets a bit draining when certain shows are all-serious, all-drama, all-the-time.
Sawyer was in a great mood, which you ****ing would be after six episodes in a cage! Had he been his surly old self, I would have been disappointed - he just got free, what's he gonna do, mope?

The fact is, I think, if you were on this island, and there was nothing like the van, the golf course etc. going on, it'd really be awful. Things like this would happen, and imo it was a good idea to show it. Also, we know that we've got Kate, Locke and Sayid hunting down the Others to look forward to.

I agree, while plot based episodes are good, every now and again it is good to have episodes like this which gives more sympathy towards the characters, also good to see jin and hurley again. Not seen Jin since episode 2 so good to re-aquaint with him.

It's good to see Lost is looking back at Season One. I especially loved the part when Sawyer called Charlie a munchkin- a possible nod to the little Hobbit?

Anyway, an episode doesn't need to move the story on. It was good to show the humor amongst all the death. Hurley is the heart of the Island.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,854 ✭✭✭Sinfonia

Hurley is the heart of the Island.

Love the way he laughs whenever Jin does anything.

How many new nicknames did sawyer come up with in this episode. Everytime he talked to charlie he had a new nickname for him, more or less the same for hurley and he had about a gazillion(just a rough guesstimation) for roger the skeleton guy.

An absolute waste in my opinion. The last minute or so was the only part that held any real significance. If you only saw that, you didn't miss anything else. Gee, the lottery brought Hurley bad luck? Could've sworn I saw an episode or two already dedicated to that in the past.
Maybe it's because I'm watching it straight after a new episode of 24 nowadays (and in comparison it's like watching paint dry) but it's becoming a bit of a drag.

I think this is the first disgruntled rant I've ever had about the show, but after last week's sub-par episode followed by this pointless filler, I'm losing the faith a little.

I wonder if Michelle Rodriguez was amused by the site of a crashed car with beer in the boot? Maybe Roger aka Skeletor had been drinking, causing his crash.

A nice little dig from 'Messers' Cuse and Lindelof?;)

Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Why get so hung up on finding out the eventual answers without enjoying the journey? The answers will come, but if you cant appreciate whats actually happening before they do, why watch it?

At the end of the day when its all finished and everyone has all the episodes on DVD or download or whatever, this would be one among few that i would rewatch for the enjoyment.

And on the "Is it a shock about Alex" question, no its not a shock. I very much doubt the writers take the viewing public for such fools that we'd have forgotten what has been very clearly shown. Rather then it being a shock i see it as a set up for all the people annoyed at a "filler episode" so they can know action is forthcoming.

For me, i'm quite happy with the odd well written episode where not much happens but we see that these people are actually human and not machines driven to discover the great secret. We get to see a bit of natural human interaction rather then tense panicked reaction. A very nice (and i would imagine deliberate) change/contrast to the situation Kate and Sawyer have just left. Its nice to know they still have their humanity, as L31mr0d very rightly said.

In my own opinion of course.

Thought it was crap myself so gave it a three.

Most of the humour seemed forced although there were a few good one liners. The whole episode was filler for filler sake, the only thing worse would have been a sitcom style clip show. Why they can't provide a feel good episode AND move the plot forward is beyond me, surely the basis of good writing would be to do this ?

Also does anyone else think the false backs are fast becoming redundant at this stage ? All they seem to do is re hash everything we already know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭jester77

Thought it was a very poor episode, the sort of stuff I wouldn't even add to the extra's of the DVD. If this had come on the back of a quality episode then maybe I may have just let it pass. But the show is beginning to wane and I think the large decline in US viewers is testament to this. They really need to get a better balance in the episodes between progress and enertainment/humour and have more interaction between the various character stories instead of focusing on just one... something like how Hereos does it. They really need a big episode next week and I hope they pull it off, it's still one of the best shows in years!

Accepting the fact it was a filler, I thought it was very enjoyable, never laughed so much with any previous episode, once I got over the amazingly bad continunity in the beginning where HobbitMan's shaving cut disappeared blood and all, it settled to a fine episode with some great one liners
Suppose we're just past the halfway of this saga - assuming 5 series - so we're on the way home.
Also amazed noone has listed the reasons why that van could not have ran after so long "idle", just goes to show we accepted it as a light hearted ep and not core to the series
Please please lets see more of Locke and Siaid

so - what did we learn?

Some Tv reporter died in a chicken joint that Hurley owned.
They found a van with beer.
Koreans are gonna try conversate in English.
Kate went to Rosseau for help.
Hurley was thin when he was younger.

bla bla bla. crap episode. A 5 for me. Next week will be better though!

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,344 ✭✭✭fitz

This episode wouldn't have been given such low ratings if it had been in season 1 or 2.

It was a pretty good episode, but the problem is that with such ropey episodes prior to it, supposedly advancing the plot, viewers, including myself, are damn frustrated with the lack of answers and the constant addition of more bloody questions.

So when a non-plot episode comes along, it doesn't matter if it's any good, people are just gonna think "great, another episode where we learn nothing."

The writers need to start answering questions. Quickly.

Enjoyed this episode so much more than lst week. Any episode that concentrates on Hurley and has more than just Jack and Kate in it have to be good. Like Hurleys one-liners "red...necked...man" and the way he looks at Jin when he trys to communicate with him are hilarious. Enjoyed this more than episodes with so much symbolism in them you can't just sit back and watch it without disecting it to the bone...
