Sorry if this is wrong forum move where necessary.

I knocked a glass of water on my laptop (fujitsu siemens amilo m7400) today, managed to get most of the water of. It was still on after i managed to do that. I turned it off took out all the cables, and left it upside down for a while. Used a hair dryer to try and dry the inside. Anyway, it is still working now, as im typing on it as i speak, however sometimes it just randomly switches off, and when i turn it back on it wont boot the hard drive.

I tried to do the system restore cd that came with it, but it told me the version of windows on the disc is older than the current version i have installed.

What have i done to it, and does it sound bad? I know it shouldnt be too bad as its still working.

turn it off and allow it to dry properly. remove anything thats easy to take off like battery and cd drive or covers. run the hair dryer through it on medium heat and highest fan setting for as long as you have spare time. blow everything keboard battery bay any vents and any orifice of any kind. And then put it in a Hot press/airing cupboard for a few days. turning it on while anything is even a little damp could destroy it and you've been lucky enough that it isnt already obviously damaged. Seriously!!!! allow it a few days and a few more times with the hair dryer before you power it up again and leave battery off until your goin to do so and dry everything thoroughly. This might seem a little extreme but it isnt. IT IS TOTALLY NECESSARY TO DRY IT PROPERLY. then when your sure its dry power it up again and hope for the best. if problems persist i hope you have insurance.

As for the reinstall it shouldnt be needed but you never know. never mind the older version warning they usually apply to anything up to and including your current version and the one on the disk should be the same as the one one the laptop.
