What's a good moped/scooter?

Well I cycle everywhere at the minute and what with the miserable weather I've been pondering getting a scooter (the fact that I cycle up hill on the way home doesn't help either). But I've nooo idea of what are good models to buy.

So, what's considered to be the most reliable, decent scooter out there?

Also I live in the UK atm so there are other things I need to sort out but what's the avg insurance cost for a scooter in Ireland? I'm 25 btw with a full Irish DL but I haven't a clue about whether this is suitable in the UK (I'll be checking that myself with the cops I guess).

    Cheers,

    CL

EDIT: Oh and how much should I look at paying for a second hand one roughly?

A good moped would be the likes of the Aerox and your insurance at 25 in ireland would be about 850.

The Yamaha Aerox, MBK Ovetto, or Honda X8RX or X8RS would all be good ones to go for. Hard to say what you would expect to pay, depends on age, condition and whether your buying privately or not.

Insurance could be expensive- I only have 3rd party. I have always Suzukis good - I have a Katana and easy enough to get parts.
    MBK always look very slow.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I figured a good place to start is see what bikes are out there. Next I have to see what's the story with my DL and insurance costs. I'm not looking to buy some top of the line scooter, just something to replace the mountain bike on days when I just can't face cycling and obviously something to use as a runabout.

I always got mine through Buy and sell you can get a decent enough second one for between €800-€1000
