too much oil is almost as bad as none. can blow the seals in your engine from the amount of pressure build up etc. its not a major hard thing to remedy, im sure the AA guy drained your oil to a reasonable level, if not you'll need to, do it when the engine has cooled off fully.

Probably best to get the garage to do it. Done it before for a boat using a hand pump thing, you run the engine first to heat up the oil a bit, then the pump sucks the oil out the dip stick hole. With a car you get under the oil sump, under the engine and open a nut at the bottom of the sump to drain it a bit, so not so easy. http://www.ehow.com/how_11_change-motor-oil.html

how much did you put in?
the amount of damage depends on how long you drove it for - there is a possibility your catalytic convertor could have taken some damage.
