Holiday pay?

    Hey all

    What's the story with this "Holiday Pay" I've heard about in part time jobs.Is it something lik for every hours you work you get like 2 euro or something?Anyone know anything at all about this?

    You are paid for holidays as well. I have about 29 paid days/year to use on hols.

    Ya but you know what I mean about that whole get paid something for every x amount of hours you work?No?

    I believe the standard for part-time jobs is you receive 8% of the hours you worked as holidays.

    spot on. Recently been in a big debate with employer over this.

    8% of the hours you work is what you are legally entitled to. Grey area is do you get time off or do you get holiday pay - down to the employer.

    In my situation I only work 20hrs a week so every 6 months, go through timesheets with employer and I get 8% of the total hours I worked over the last 6weeks in my next pay check, works out fine. Both parties happy.

    BTW was same story working for large multinational last year

    The law is actually quite specific that holidays must be taken in time off and pay cannot be given in lieu of time off unless the employee is leaving. The law prohibits the possibility of an employee agreeing to accept pay in lieu.

    No No! It's not a grey area at all. The statutory regulations clearly specify that pay may not be given in lieu of annual leave except in very exceptional circumstances as Johnmb states, if the employee leaves the employer or in the event of the death of the employee.

    you are entitled to at least 160 hours off a for every year worked in a full time job as i recently found out.................

    i thought it was done in days but apparently not as they recently changed my contract from having 20 days off to having 160hours and as i work a 10 hour shift thats only 16 days........

    It works out the same PeakOutput. If you work 10 hour days, I assume that (excluding overtime) you probably work 4 days per week. Therefore, if you get 16 days annual leave, you still get 4 weeks off (4 days X 4).

    Annual leave is generally based on an 8 hour, 5 day week but it's easily adjusted to suit shift work. An employee who works 13 hour shifts will have a week off if they get 3 days off as they will have been off for the other four days anyway.
