    Hi everyone,
I was in my local Sony store when my eye was drawn to the above model. The full name was Sony KD55A20A11XTNS 55'' SXRD TV. I have been looking for reviews online for ages and I cannot find a match for this exact model. The closest I can find is this KDS-55A2000 55@@ SXRD TV, which looks identical.

    http://www.sony.ie/view/ShowProduct.action?product=KDS-55A2000&site=odw_en_IE&pageType=TechnicalSpecs&category=TVP+Rear+Projection+TV

The specs that were advertised in store seem to match up with the one in the online review so I'm not sure there is a diffence. The ones advertised instore were

    -HD1080p 1920x1080)
    -Bravia Engine Pro Picture Enhancement
-Live Color Creation/ Dolby Prologic II
    -2xHDMI, 3xScart, 2xcomponent, PC Input
    -10000:1 Contrast Ratio

I'm wondering if anyone has this tv (the one in the title, and not the one in the one advertised in the link, unless it is the same model), and if so, is it a good buy. The store has it listed as 1899 including a stand.

    Thanks in advance.

fyi powercity.ie are knocking another 90 quid off this as an online discount which drops the price to 1809.48 which is very very tempting.

Took a trip to Powercity there and the 1,899 price in store includes a HX720 DVD recorder or they'll knock a couple of hundred off the price if you don't want the DVD recorder (and I reckon I could have bargained down a few more quid). So that brings it down to under 1,700 quid for a 55" TV. Only includes a 12 month warranty though which is a little disappointing.

Dropped into Sony centre afterwards and same tv is 2,200 from them. Mentioned the offer in Powercity to one of the guys working there and he couldn't believe it.

    Hello, I'm a novice here on boards.ie...

can any one advise me about the kds-55a2000 sony rear projection tv.....I have put a deposit on probably the last tv available (in its box) in ireland and will be picking it up tomorrow.....

I have just heard that Sony Ireland/Uk... are Not supplying this TV to outlets in ireland/uk as of last week...The price recently dropped significantly from above 3000euro to 2000??? obviously as a prelude to this happening....does anyone have any info regarding this as Sony are remaining tight lipped....The Larger 70 inch model is currently available for purchase....

Help!!......Is this a good time to buy or should i wait for the replacement...if one is coming...

Is the technology sound (SXRD)... Any advice or news is welcome....

    Desparate Couch potato!

Where did you hear the information that they won't be re-stocking?

    And why would they not?

Powercity have taken the 50" model of this RP TV off their catalogue as well after the price kept dropping. The 55" has been off their system for weeks.

Why? Must be some reason... perhaps not enough profit on the sets due to this price drop, which seems to be as a means of competing with the falls in LCD/plasma prices. Or else there are new models....except that the 55"sxrd is not long on the market and has some great reviews out there.
Possibly sony are limiting their range in Ireland to sell other models at better profits...I know they stopped pixmania carrying an AV amp&speaker package I was gonna buy...yet the model is still available across europe. We instead get a more expensive and less well specced model as an alternative...and sony push up alredy high margins from the Irish market.

This TV is being phased out because the next gen of laser RPG is coming to the market and I'd say Sony just wanted to clear the old guys out, €2k for a 2.5ms, 55" Full HDTV and stand, bargain

true they were a bargain. I don't think that it has anything to do with laser rpg tv's though. More to do with irish consumers obsession with flat tv's. When people see a tv has a fat arse, they presume it's not as good as one that doesnt. I'd say they were just not selling well, and wont sell well in the irish market so sony are going to concentrate on their askinny tv's
