How to turn off pulsing light?

I have an imac and I'm not sure if it's just me, but I downloaded some patches lastnight and when I put it to sleep, the flashing white light on the front seemed really, really bright. Much brighter than usual. Now maybe I'm just going nuts, but I sleep in the same room as the mac is in and have never noticed it before, but now it's really noticeable.

So I was wondering 2 things:

    1) is it possible something in the last update somehow changed the light settings?

    2) how the hell can I turn of the light? I don't want to be left with black tape over my mac.

The built in Ambient Light Sensor should dim the light automatically in a dark room - so it really shouldn't be that bright.

AFAIK there are no software upgrade for disabling this, but you could try putting the display to sleep rather than the machine itself. It will start up quicker and you shouldn't have that pesky light bothering you.

    Thanks,
    Adam
