Digital Multiroom - Need Card Activated

    Hi,

I have digitial multiroom, I had it set up in August of last year....at the time I only had a TV in the living room but recently bought a TV for the spare room where the other Digital box is (but I never used)....now when I load it up I only get the basic channels and get the message 'you are not subscribed etc' also the message your pin card has not been activated please phone NTL (gave the number) ....

So I phoned them up and they asked the usual, have you restarted... gone to help and restarted...I advised I had already done this....now the customer service rep on the other said that they had to send someone out to fix it!!! I don't believe it is broken it only needs to be activated....the best bit? They can only send someone out in April!!! Why is it that they have to send someone out to phone NTL to activate the card?? When I have all the details they need???

Are they just full of their usual rubbish?

    Thanks

    Hi Easy

I had similar issue recently with that smart card activation. See this thread.

It'd take a while, give it a few days and hope the channels get viewable.

Thanks but the thing is when I was on the phone she did not even take my card number or say they would activate it remotely, she said that someone had to come out??? She did not say it will take a few hours but that one of the technicians would have to make a visit in april?

bog them with plenty of phone calls, i know it's time consuming but you might get lucky getting promising or nice response from a lovely person in there. there are quite a few nice staff on the support line thou. :p be pushy in a good manner.

I phoned them again today, actually got through straight away which was a first, spoke to some guy I did talk me through some things, he says the card is set-up I checked the settings in the help menu and the card is the right number on my side and their....I took the card from the one in the living room and put that one through and I still get the same thing saying the card is not activate, although that card works fine in the living room, so it must be the singal in or the box, anyway he said that he would have someone call tomorrow to organise a visit asap...

NTL ties the card and box together, you cannot take the card from one box and use it in another. This is why the card in your working decoder will not work in the other decoder. If the card number matches what NTL have on record then I presume one of the following:
    a) NTL's cards are similar to Sky's and die if left out of an active decoder for too long, in which case, leaving the card in the decoder, with the decoder connected to a known working NTL point and powered on, should restore service after a while.

    b) Same as above, but NTL need to activate the card if it becomes deactivated in this way

    c) The card was deactivated or never activated by NTL, and they need to activate it remotely

    d) Their is a genuine fault with the decoder and they will come out and replace it.

Thanks, makes sense, I have left it on at a working point (my broadband comes from it and basic TV works) so it must be D......

If the dtv box is not connected to a signal for the first day its ment to be activated, Most(almost all) of the time it will have to be swapped out. They could try a dehit on it first it may work but I really doubt it.
