thought id ask here first before ringing up sky, ive had a panasonic sky box for a good few years now, but im thinking the thing is beginning to die on me or the dish is out of alignment, im not really sure which so hence asking advice

it does one of 3 things

    1) very bad picture breakup, screen tearing where the picture freezes for a few seconds and the next bit of the picture starts showing and playing while the old picture is still frozen

    2) Screen freezes for anything upto 10 seconds then resumes normal playback

    3) I click on a channel, the screen remains blue for a couple of seconds, and it comes back saying there is a technical fault with this channel please try again later

    Now anyone tell me

    1) Is it the box

    2) Is it the dish out of alignment

    And

    3) if it is said box and i need to get it replaced whats the procedure and is there a charge cause the box is a good few years old

    Cheers

    Shin

The fault can be either 1 or 2! Or the cable could be at fault.

Most likely is dish is off alignment.

Go to Services, System Setup, Signal Test, and report on the levels of the Signal Quality.

will do later on, i rang sky this morning and they went through there usual checks the agent on the phone felt it was more the box was the problem but did say before booking an enginner to come out to get the dish checked first, as the engineer callout would cost 100 euros, so getting someone to come out tomorrow to see if its out of aligment

I went into the area that you asked me to, not sure if i was supposed to see numbers are anything

    but heres what im seeing

2 bars that are greyed out, the 1st bar is nearly full, The 2nd bar is a little over a quarter full, now when i click on them to see if anything is in them nothing happens

Best analogy i can come up with is a windows button thats greyed out and can do nothing with

    hope that helps

2nd bar is signal quality, you need to tweek your dish, 2 man job, one at dish and other watching signal strength and quality.

aye i got this sorted in the end, the dish was indeed out of alignment, both bars are now nearly full and the box is working again on all channels, must have been the high winds and bad weather that did it

but alls well that ends well, plus saved 100 euro in the bargain :)
