A pretty broad question, but has anyone have their patience and staying power at the table as their Achilles heal? I seem to be dominating games early on regardless of plays and cards given, but lose it after a few hours. Maybe poker isnt the game for me and I just dont have it... sorry if this post screams "novice" but I always seem to be doing well early on in tournies and cash games, just to go all in later on, on a pair of 5s pre flop with a few players remaining!

Ive cut down on the amount of live tournies I play over this, when Im in form for a tourney I can sit there for 14hours but if Im burned out Ill be gone before the first break.

I think it sorts the men from the boys. Patience is a virtue and Ive absolutely none of it. I love the game but as it progreses, frustration and to a certain degree boredom kicks in.

play in short, sharp bursts. quit on first signs that you are playing sub-optimally.

(easier said than done, but in your case it certainly sounds like less will be more)

Yep I have the same at times. Might play well for hours then inexplicably make a decision to play a couple of random cards heavily for no proper reason. Seems to happen after daydreaming through a dry patch, then suddenly remembering I'm in the middle of a tourny and feeling obliged to partake.

I've tried to learn to embrace the dry run of cards. There's no harm in them and no need for an overreaction. I try to hang on and wait for a more justifiable make-or-break moment (or maybe even pocket Aces!).

I don't know whether your impatience stems from dry patches as well, that's just my experience. Maybe a seasoned player will share some of their patience tips and tricks with us now. I suppose a real hunger to win is an essential element.
