Ladies using the word C*NT

This is something I heard discussed recently. Do you have feelings on it either way?

One party equated women doing this to women spitting in the street and the other thought that was totally chauvenistic. Let's hear your two cents...

if it's ok for men to do something, it's ok for women to do something.

somethings either wrong for both sexes, or it's tolerable. women or men do not deserve special treatment as a result of their gender.

Just what I was about to post so QFT.

Although one thing that does get to me is that I know females who hate to hear people using that word and after telling off the person who said it turn back to thier friends and say "Now where was I ? Oh yeah I know her, she's a total c*nt".

It's just a word. Don't use it personally but would probably find it a little more odd to hear a woman use it. Then again I can't remember anyone I know (as an adult) using it.

Probably just used for shock value by people with nothing better to say.

it is strange to hear a woman using it but i have no problem with it really

Same here - sometimes I find it a bit weird when a woman says it, but if they want to say it I wouldn't stop them

It's ok to curse, just as long as they don't drink pints, just glasses :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭runswithascript

I wouldn't stop them either but it would be there in the back of my mind. I mean if I was going out with a girl who constantly used it it would be an issue. Is this sexist? Maybe it's just because it doesn't come across very effeminate, women don't like vain men or those that pluck their eyebrows etc, right?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

yeah, that's pretty sexist.. but it doesn't mean that it's bad. Everyone is sexist in one way or another, except me.
    I'm great.

Don't mind who uses it as long as it is not followed to closely by my name. :)

"Whereas without batting an eye a man will refer to his dick, or his rod, or his johnson."

'Cúntmunch' is one of my favourite slurs on one's character, all the better when uttered by a lady. Only a true lady can spit out the word 'Cúnt' and still maintain their grace and dignity, it's a tough thing to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,038 ✭✭✭✭Wishbone Ash

I prefer not to hear either gender using it.

(It's nearly always preceded by the word "useless" in my workplace.)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,395 ✭✭✭Marksie

I rarely use the "F" word and never the "C" word.
Excessive use of either in language, from either sex and i walk away, i find it a BIG turnoff.
It shows a lack of education, or laziness.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 565 ✭✭✭free2fly

I absolutely despise that word no matter who's mouth it comes out of! I also hate the "f" word. Which makes it very difficult when I'm in Ireland. Though it sounds so much more poetic with your accents ;) Here at home I have a "swear jar" If you use the "f" bomb in my house you have to pay $1 for each time you use it. The "c" word is $5 for each offense. I've made a small fortune over the years :D But to me it's a matter of respect. If you respect me you will not use those words in my house. I know they're just words, but they are offensive to me.

Well if women can't use a word that actually describes a part of their own body nobody should! I mean for goodness sakes it's not supposed to be a nice word - it starts with a harsh "c" and ends with an even harsher "t" but fuelling the taboo only gives it more power I say.

It's ok for women to use it one of my fav word's especially since i seen the vagina monolougues last year

You are happy to make a "fortune" from something you find offensive? :)

PS - What about "fánny"? It has a different meaning here than in the US!

I don't see the problem tbh... Sure it's offensive to some people, but why should it be a bigger deal for a woman to say it than a man? /shrug

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,559 ✭✭✭✭AnonoBoy

Wow we've gone this far in the thread without anyone mentioning the vagina monologues.

Seeing a theatre full of middle aged women chanting '**** **** ****' over and over is a bit sad really.

Well, on the actual word: it really annoys me when people say they find it offensive. Who's it offending? The same people then have no problem with using the word 'retard' or 'spastic' - awfully nasty words. And as for c*nt being a slang term for the female genitalia, nobody really associates it with that when they use it. Just like nobody really associates f*ck with the sexual act when they use it.
But as for uttering the words: swearing when unnecessary sounds unpleasant (in the case of either gender), but it's totally fair enough when used to emphasise something (ditto).
Edit: re thread title: 'ladies' in this day and age sounds lame. Just use 'women' or 'girls'. I quite like using the 'c' word.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Another daft thread. No problem with anyone using it in the correct context. As for this 'lack of education' rubbish, you show me a word as succent and versatile as f*** and I'll use it.

Using c*nt and f*ck is big and clever... especially when combined in the same sentence... like "f*ck my c*nt harder"

Have you ever taken a leak in public, be it in the street or in a laneway? Do you think it is as acceptable, or as unacceptable for a woman to urinate in public as it is for a man?

Well I find no reason why women should not be permitted to express the idea that someone or something is not capable of doing something in such a manner. However, the omission of the apostrophe does indeed irritate me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 270 ✭✭Katykaboom

I hate the word, Hate hate hate hate it. That and the p word. But the thing is I cant stop[ using the c word. Comes out when Im angry. Or drunk. I dont even notice sometimes and am disgusted with myself when I use it.

Hmmmmmm maybe education is rubbish to you, but well, i use words every day in my job, where effective communication skills are required and not just the ability to grunt a few choice epithets.

The words are meaningless when used in excess, or as an excuse to fail to construct effective communication.

Versatility is a matter of opinion, your idea of versatility is my idea bone idleness when it comes to verbal communication. Case in point, demaning one word to fill multpile uses is pure laziness. or perhaps using words is just one of my pecadillos.

Instead of using one word... educate yourself and get a dictionary, you will find many words in there. You never know it may be that you realise that actually using new words may actually have a positive benefit rather than simple sentence strings punctuated by swear words to make a point.

don't see the problem with anyone using it, i don't see how it's any worse than any of the other words. And I also think the idea that using such language is a sign of a lack of education is ****ing bull****

I don't think it's the best behaviour a person can exhibit but I've done it a few times while drunk and there's nowhere else to piss, I wouldn't expect a woman to force herself to wait until she gets home if she feels she's bursting just so I could preserve my sense of female decorum. It's a little undignified for women, what with the squatting and everything and not quite as easy as it is for us (zip flip slash shake zip) but tbh it's none of my business. If she feels that she has to piss and just can't wait, then she can rest easy knowing that I won't hold a grudge against her for answering natures call.

I use that word at times, it is a powerful word and one that has been wrongfully used too much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 271 ✭✭iremex

what the is the P word?

i dont mind the C word, i use it very rarely but when i do use it, its meritted.. but what i CANT stand is when ppl stop you mid way through your rant/sentance and tell you that they find it offensive. its not like you are calling them a c**t ffs. they want you to say "c u next tuesday"
they need to have something else to worry about other than a damn word.

Wrong. Some women don't like men like that. Some women would love if their partner took pride in his appearance and kept things neat. Some women would believe that men who do this kind of thing are still perfectly masculine.

Personally, I say "c*nt" whenever I feel like saying it and there are plenty who would agree that I am still perfectly effeminite and well within my rights to use the word as much as any man.

A man can refer to his penis by using a million different words (words which can also be used as insults) so why is it so awful for women to have equivalent words?

I have a rich and varied vocabulary thank you very much, it just so happens that I'm not prudish enough to exclude certain words from it solely on the basis that some may consider them rude. Your patronising tone would earn a hearty **** off from many, so maybe you should embrace the word you seem to have such a fear off.

I view a woman saying that word in the same way I would a white person using the well known derogatory word for a black person.

I don't mind the odd bit of swearing from women, but going ott I believe does show a lack of education.

Isn't the title a contradiction in terms ? Ladies do not use the word cnut in much the same way as Pacifists do not beat people to a pulp.......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,437 ✭✭✭Crucifix

What do people mean by lack of education?
Frankly, as my life as gone on both my amount of education and, for want of a better word, sweariness have increased.

As long as it's not followed by the words: have, sex, and tonight it's fine by me.

    should I get my coat?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Wow, the prudishness in this thread is nausiating.

It's just a word. I find that if someone gets offended, it reflects far more on them than it does on the word itself. As for ladies using it... So?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 565 ✭✭✭free2fly

Lol! Well, it was a very small fortune actually. And tbh no one has ever used the "c" word in my house ;)

I don't know how f*nny is used over there, but it's rarely ever used here anymore. Bum has basically replaced it.

I never stop people and tell them that I find those words offensive when it's not in my home. I just grin and bear it and cringe. But they are words I wouldn't use myself. Well, I have to be honest and say that I have used the "f" bomb on a few occassions when I was extremely angry. And yes, I did put $1 in the swear jar :D

Yes I have, usually when drunk. It's not acceptable for anyone to do it unless it's in an bush or something and one is in dire straits with nowhere else to go.

My idiot friend when very drunk went right opposite my house and I was ashamed because my neighbours might have seen him but dare I say it I would feel infinitely worse if it had been my girlfriend caught doing it by my neighbours. Sexist again, right?

i would be a bit shocked if a "lady" used it, mearly because i would expect more from someone id consider to be a lady which would be someone who is intelligent and witty enough to not resort to using such words, likewise id be shocked if someone who was in my opinion a gentleman used it. nothing can ruin an attractive person faster then a horrible accent.

ah the p word, couldnt be what you call a little cat?

i have only encountered that situation when out in the pub and one of my friend's friend objected to it.. weirdo.

have heard it in the office over the past few years and hear "oh i dont like that word!"
another girl use to give anyone in the office a bollicking for using it. one day she went apesh!t at her boyfriend on the phone after he used it. sad sad woman

I thinks its great at the height of passion when used for vagina.

As for an insult, meh, it can be over-used but its nicely effective.

I remember as a young child standing there with my jaw on the floor when my beautiful canadian cousin, when asked by my Dad how her flight was, loudly told the whole family that her fanny was red raw

I curse way too much - i dont find it lady-like its just a bad habit, although it does sound better in a posh accent (i definately dont have one of those)

Not much is said in my house when you curse however my mother goes mad if you say 'poxy' - i dont think thats an actual curse though, they always say it in eastenders - at least thats what i tell my mother when i am getting an earful.
