    Hi Folks

I was just thinking since last few days thats i have been spending too much time online<or infront of computer> and i need to balance that.I would like to ask you guys

How much time of you day you spend online on average ?

    In my case

I work 9am-5 infront of pc <work in It sector so that cant be avoided >i even browse websites in my break rather than taking a walk
and then i get to home at about 6.30 and from 8.00 till 11.15 i am online before i go sleep
On weekends again I find it hard to keep away from computer.I dont think i have an addiction but i am just concerned about this as i can change this if found not normal.

Thats more than 80% of my daily time online.

Thats everyday since last 10 months

Do you think its too much ? have you ever got a feeling that you are spening too much time on internet ?

I am a bit concerned as i find some times difficult to sleep

I think i need a bit of adjustment here. what do you guys think ?
    any helpful comments appreciated.

i'd spend about 60% of my day in front of a pc (this includes work and watching tv, dont use the television much), at weekends however i spend a lot less time at a computer and do have trouble sleeping at times. to fix this i started going for a walk in the evening and also in the morning. seems to be doing the world of good

You mean, you actually turn off your computer?

    Monday - Friday 8am - 4.30pm

Maybe an hour in the evening if I am bored and seldom on the weekends, maybe come on if i am really bored or hungover or something.

Varies greatly from an hour to several hours per day. No real pattern. I can chat forever online to someone special, and not realise the passage of time. DVDs normally take about 2 hours to play, so I would assume that you wanted these counted too? I don't read newpapers, watch telly or listen to the radio, but do check the news online as well as listen to music CDs or online tunes.

9 - 5 Monday to Friday. Work involves being online, but Id give an hour of downtime to boards every day.

1 hour here and there over the weekend, check emails, talk crap on this site now and again and changing my fantasy football team.

Depends really. Pigheads boards usage is inversely proportional to coolsmileygirls. She logs on, Pighead logs off.

laptops have been the death of society! :)

i spend about 8hours online (between 9-5) and when i go home in the evening, if i can be bothered to bring the laptop home, about an hour WHILST watching tv.
at the weekends i spend in total about 2hours just checking mail and reading newspapers

the sleep issue might be just that you might not be using enough energy in your day because of inactivity such as being online 80% of the day. take a break for an hour at least and go for a quick stroll round the block in the evenings

I think you are absolutely right about the sleeping issue.I dont feel tired at all.I used to do weight lifting with dumbells in home and used to get good sleep but since i stopped that my sleep has never been the same

I think as most of u pointed out i need a change in my computer usage time.

    keep the comments comming

    Its really helpfull input

    Thanks

I don't use computers in my job (I've been off work the last couple of days), so it's mainly my own free time which I spend online. Usually from about 6pm till midnight or after, between browsing forums, ebay, news and various other stuff, managing torrents, watching youtube stuff or wtahcing d/led TV/movies or messing about mixing music or whatever, pissing around with p'shop, if I'm in the house.

At the weekends, I'd spend some of saturday afternoon online and maybe the early evening. If I'm not going out or round to a mates then I'll probably stay online.
Sundays I tend to only log-in and have a quick browse before heading out and then from about 7 that night I'll be between the laptop and the telly from the comfort of the sofa.

Given that I don't work with computers and have no access to them during the workday, I probably spend too much of my freetime online...I don't think I'd call it an addiction (but what addict does?) and I don't worry too much; there's far worse things I could be doing...

[edit] as for sleep? Not with a fulltime job, it tires me out nicely...

General weekday, an hour or two. But recently I've got nothing to do until a certain machine is free, so I've been online maybe 8 hours a day.
Researching of course...but maybe the odd bit of posting on boards in the middle of the day...

no probs sleeping at all mate

erm been working in this particular job for 2 years now, before that i lived in the states and didnt work in office so was a bit different - didnt go online at all really for a few years

been spending quite a bit of time online since about 1998 though

maybe get some more excercise in evenings to help u get to sleep?

OT a bit but does anyone find if you're already wrecked tired and heading to bed but you decide to check your email/forums and whatnot for 15 minutes you don't feel tired anymore and takes a good 30 minutes of being wide awake to get into 'sleep mode' ?

too much. I work with computers 9am - 6pm, then I get home, have dinner then i'll either play a few games on the net, watch some movies on my computer or surf the net. When i'm not doing this i'm inside my computer upgrading it or just tweaking and overclocking it.

It's gotten so bad now that when i misplace my keys my first thought is "right F3 search keys"

RL just seems so slow compared how much you can learn and do on a PC or on the internet.

In saying that I do spend at least 2 months a year traveling without going near a computer. I'll even go without checking my emails in an internet cafe, which I know some of my friends can't resist.

Doing a course which relies heavily on computers monday to friday and then i do 22 hours work at the weekend in front of a computer.
Christ. I'm gonna burn the eyes out of my sockets.

    so i am not alone

But i am just noticing all replies and i think i am definately going to change my
way of life. The computer thing has too much control over my life

I will make adjustments and within few weeks in report finding

Once again keep the input comming
I am sure its helpful for others as its for me

My pc is doing something 24 hours a day.
I use it for pretty much everythnig and am rarely away from it.

this is the main reason I log on to the internet at all odd hours of the day.

I shut down my PC when its not in use: and why not? Set up your PC to hibernate when you slap the power button: when you boot up again you're just where you left off: logged on to your sites and all. Also; running with 2 pc monitors tends to cut into the ESB bill :D (one for browsing one for YouknowwhatTube)

I definitely spend 8+/- hours a day on this monster..iTV is sooo much better than terrestrial TV.

I have no TV. I'm online about 60% of the time I'm at home. I think it's too much. I try to turn it off an hour before bed so I can sleep better.

    Youknowwhattube?
    You mean youtube?

It's all good, just as long as you don't link to full episodes of tv shows or to movies and other copyrighted stuff. There is a bit of leeway given.

If I'm not going out, I'll usually sit in front of the tv with my laptop in the evening. Don't have net access in work.
