Do you think we still should not eat meat on these days? Is this not an old ritual suited to a bygone era?

If you're practising catholic and want to, then you should refrain from eating meat.
If you're not a [practising] catholic then don't.
    What's the issue?

    FTW

I didn't eat any meat yesterday but I don't think any less of anyone who does, personal choice really. :)

we had this discussion in work and some people were sayin how can u eat meat on a black fast etc etc etc.

i think because catholicism was forced onto previous generations and as a result it means less to people growing up now, nobody wants to give up a meal that they enjoy especially when such a big deal is made out of it.

me personally i eat meat on black fasts because the bible is far to ridiculous to be true. curing the blind, loaves and fishes etc. I just can't believe that kinda thing.

if u can be a cgood person and believe in those around u rather than a higher power i think life and its struggles would be much easier to deal with

I am a practising catholic, but some of the catholic laws are pointless. What are you a atheist? If so you can't really make such a broad statement as this.

The Catholic church also says that confession will absolve you of your sins, so easy isn't it?

I can't say "if you want to do this particular thing do it"? Why not?

What has that got to do with meat?

I suppose I think they are related in a way. I just think someof the rules laws are bizarre, that's all.

There's your answer any time you feel obliged to do something because an organised religion says you should.

Well my family are pretty anal about it but I ate meat yesterday. It was just some silly rule made up by a bunch of men in the middle ages.If I broke the ten commandmnets now that would be differnt, but I cant see any harm in eating meat.

It is down to personal choice at the end of the day.
If you believe that not having meat is for you, then do it.

Eat the meat and then ask for forgiveness? Always wondered could you imagine bopping up to the pearly gates only not be let in because you had a Big Mac one time on Ash Wednesday?

I had Fish btw, but only because my diet means I have to cut down most if not all meats.

If I remember rightly you weren't allowed eat meat at all on Friday? What happened there?

It has been my practise not to eat meat during those days. No special reasons for it except that when I was a child mother has served us veggies and fish when Holy week comes. I grew up to it and I still do it now. I'm a Christian though.

Personally, I prefare to follow the Gord. I consider those that take their left shoe off and wave it in the air to be heretical and deserving of death.
