This happened at a cash table at the big slick team event at the weekend.

The board is AKQXX. player 1 bets, player 2 calls. Player 1 says I've an ace, player 2 mucks. Player 1 then says nah I was only messing and shows Q3.
Player 2 is pissed cause he mucked a king.

Is player 2 entitled to the pot in any way or is it his own fault for mucking based on what the other player declared.

player 1 takes it, never muck your hand til you're sure you're beaten!

i like it! i hate people trying to be cool at times by mucking their cards early, serves them right. if you have a hand show it down!

was thinking that would be the ruling alright, thanks guys. Player one should get a severe beating though IMO.

Come on lads, that's pretty class speech play. Stealing the pot at showdown! This is the type of thing Ryan Giggs would do if he were a poker player!

Its not class speech play, if it was a tournement he would definately get reprimanded imo. His verbal declaration is a lie and it is not permitted, the other guy just shouldnt of mucked his cards.

Why can't you lie at a poker table?

Hollywood park has some sort of rule in place about that, where they will take the pot from the mis-declarer if deemed an intentional angle shoot. The other guy's cards don't matter, he gets the pot. I'll check on the true language when I get home.

"cards speak" not what you say, you should be able to declare any hand you like. i detest pre-emptive muckings hoers, they should be punished accordingly! say the board is AQ258 and you say "eights" and he turns over QT and then you turn over KQ, shoule he get the pot then too? i think if you are mucking your cards early when they are supposed to be showndown the you dotn deserve to win any pot, same as people who fold but they dont touch the muck, it should be just tough luck.
