Right, we all know now that Alex is meant to be Ben's daughter from 'Not in Portland'. But, she's also meant to be Danielle's daughter.

This has me confused. First off, Danielle captured Ben in season 2 before Sayid took him back to the hatch. Surely she would've recognised her own daughter's father when she saw him.

Or, is Alex more an adopted daughter of Ben's?

Yeah the general theory is she is the adopted daughter. After Rousseau killed everyone, Ben took her (alex) under his wing....although i think theres a lot more the rousseau story...

It doesn't rule out the fact that Ben and Danielle COULD have had sex leading to Alex's birth but it does seem unlikely. So we are led to believe that when the Others supposedly took Danielle's baby, Ben raised her as his own.

Still, this is all assuming....I mean, we're still assuming that Alex is in fact the baby that Danielle is talking about. We still don't know for a fact who she is do we?

I think Rousseau was pregnant before she got to the island. Then she gave birth soon after arriving and named the baby Alex. Then the others took Alex away from her and must have found out the name while doing so.

daneille and ben DID do the ol' giggidy giggidy, its just daneilles crazy, so she dont remember ben

Seems fairly obious that daneille is with the others. shes a plant.
they used her to get Ben into the hatch. just my opinion

My theory on it is this

Ben has already said that he has spent all his life on the island. So was most likely on the Island when Danielle arrived (pregnant). Since most of the current Others are recent additions to the island - as far as we know - it is reasonable that most of them think Alex is Ben's natural daughter - as does Alex.

Danielle is not an Other - I think the episode where she took Clare's baby in an effort to trade for Alex proves this.

Alex is the kidnapped daughter of Danielle and Ben is passing her off as his own.

I may have missed something but I don't recall ever hearing the others referring to her as Alex, we are all calling her Alex as we know or assume she is Rousseaus daughter but they others talk to her but never call her by name, probably due to cunning scriptwriting, but the others may know her by a name other than Alex. Correct me if I'm wrong. Otherwise maybe Ben was stalking Rousseau and knew the baby's name was Alex, but I think he would have given her a different name anyway.

Also, if it is assumed Ben is her father, who do the others assume is her mother?

Juliet mentioned her name several times in the 7th episode of the 3rd series

They are always referring to her as Alex - as does Karl.

Someone reminded me about Ben saying that he has been on the island for his whole life.

For some reason have a hard time believing this but I don't exactly know why. And why would he lie about it? Just that when Ben was telling Jack that the Red Sox won the series and Jack refused to believe it, he said convingly "oh, they did!" as if being a football fan himself. Why would he be a football fan if he was on the island his whole life? I suppose they do have contact with the outside world...supposedly...

Well obviously they do, how else would they have had the tape of the Red Sox winning to show Jack? (It's baseball BTW )

Even if they don't have contact with people, at the very least they must be able to pick up TV/radio signals.

EDITED TO ADD: Plus Ben knew about George Bush being re-elected and Christopher Reeve dying.

Rousseau was seven months pregnant with Alex when her science ship picked up the numbers signal from the island 16 years ago.

This rules out Ben being the real father (I think?), as Ben lived on the island all his life.

Any possibility that Rousseau knows Ben, and was working with him to get Sayid to take him back to the hatch last season? Unlikely, but at least it would be a genuine 'jump the shark' storyline if it turned out to be the case.
