Tax repayments?

    Hi all,
not sure if this is the right forum, please move if not!

    Just a quick question:

Is overpaid tax paid out automatically at the end of the year, or do I have to ask for a P21 (tax balancing) from revenue?

Reason I'm asking is that I get bonuses & paid overtime at work, which, in some months, brings me over the tax bracket for that month, and I therefore pay higher tax on a certain amount. But when balanced out over 12 months, my overall pay stays below the tax bracket.

So all I need to know is if I have to put in a claim, or if it's done automatically (lost track of my payslips, it is getting very messy with all the overtime etc).

    Any pointers welcome!
    Cheers
    galah

Just give revenue a call and ask for a P21 as you've mentioned, they'll do the rest for you then.

Regardless if you think your due tax or not you should always request one at year end to ensure all your tax is up to date.

gggrh, just rang them and I need a p60 to request a P21. Grrgh, Trinity college Dublin haven't managed to balance their 2006 books yet.
