Right. I have a lovely day off, its before 9am, Im not that tired. What do I do? Im not accustomed to days off.

I dont drive, I dont live in a city, or near anyone I can even call into. At my disposal I have digital television, wireless broadband, an x-box 360 and a very creative mind.

The best I can think of is curl up on the couch with a nice blanket and electric heater, but then again, morning/day-time TV is rubbish for a guy my age.

    Suggestions, please!

    Very bad for your health.

Put on your clothes, stout boots, stick in hand to ward off snarling dogs and take a good long walk in the country.

When you come back sit on the toilet and clean yourself out, drink glass of orange juice.

By this stage you will be fully awake and full of energy so clean the house from top to bottom and do the things you have been putting off.

Sit down and watch the 6.01 News.

Do you live near/in a town? Head for a morning coffee & sandwich or bun.

When I have days off I try to stretch as much out of them as humanely possible. Because I rarely ever have any free days, or indeed days where I don't have to get up at latest 8am, weekends included.

As to what I do on these days, it's too pathetic to mention. It involves alot of internet, lan cables and just general computer usage. :D

Petes suggestion is a good one. Put that internet to good use.

And you're a man for god sake. You don't 'curl' up on a couch!

Kilkenny, but it doesnt matter, i live a good bit from civilisation. Any food I need is already in the house. Im not tired at all really so bed is out of the question, but I do feel like taking it easy. As for ****, I think ill wait until grainne seoige graces my television :D

Sorry, I wont 'curl' up on the couch. Ill go out and hunt some deer, catch a wild boar, drink a 6 pack and watch naked lesbians play football while telling a woman what to do. I'll then ruggedly throw myself onto a lump of timber instead of a feckin couch. That'll do donkey.

If I had a day off I'd probably go boozing at a bout 3 o'clock. Before then. Sleep and eat. Maybe watch something.

Get two large woolly socks and some small pieces of soft material. Glue the material in amusing face shapes onto the socks, and use them to perform an inpromptu puppet show for the local sheep population.

Why not do things that you have been putting off for ages?

Are you telling me that there are no little tasks or anything that you need to do?

I had a day off Monday and I was run ragged trying to catch up.

    I:
    1. Dropped boyfriend to his car at 7.30.
    2. Had breakfast, then watched TV till 10. Cleaned some of the house and got floors ready for washing
    3. Went into town to the tax office
    4. Got lunch
    5. Did food shopping
    6. Got home and washed floors
    7. Then I caught a cold and now im dying since yesterday (havent taken the day off).

day is half over now so what did you actually do?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,128 ✭✭✭dellas1979

Well, I dont normally get days off during the week - normally just weekends. So things like tax office etc wouldnt be open on a Saturday.

I have days off when I go on holidays and places, but this one was a get things done day off. The floors aint goin to wash themselves, if you catch my drift.

It's a given he will be doing that, like every other day.

You have a day off now, find interesting household items to assist you in different ways.

Ok, overall, im happy with my day. This is how it went. Times quoted may not be 100% accurate, but meh.

09:30: Left my labtop in my room and headed downstairs. Got blanket, had a nice lie down on the couch (no curling up whatsoever) and made my way through all the channels on television

10:00: Some fool on Seogie & O'Shea talking about memory techniques, challenging people to look at so many items and remember them in order. Thought Id see how easy it is. Lined up my DVD collection (about 30), looked at it for 60 seconds and turned around. I only got 4 right. I said Bruce Almighty when that wasnt the right answer. Turns out I dont even have Bruce Almighty on DVD (Ill let you try figure that one out yourselves!)

10:30: Popped a nice southern fried chicken fillet in the oven for a sandwich.

    11:00: Ate afore mentioned sandwich.

11:10: Decided to watch The Wind that Shakes the Barley. Turned it off after about an hour. Pure rubbish.

12:00: Got inspiration to play home bowling. We have a very long hallway, so I lined up a few deoderant cants and bottles at one end of the hall. Used a football as a bowling ball. Best half hour Ive had this week.

12:30 - 1:30: Had a nice jacuzzi bath while sippin a bottle of Miller. Overdid it with the bubblebath, flooded the bathroom.

1:30: Probably the only productive part of my day. Started to write up my CV. Didnt make it past Educational Qualifications.

2:30: Tried to make a website. Probably the worst website ever created, and the most unlikely to be ever updated again. For those interested, here is the end product.

4:00: (Yes, that website took an hour and a half) Made a list of things I want to do by the end of this year.
    • Travel outside of Europe
    • Improve college attendance
    • Insult Derek Mooney in person
    • Watch the LOTR trilogy in one day
    • Buy a new car

4:30: Watched 'How its Made' on the discovery channel. I now know how to do/make the following: Hockey pucks, Coca Cola cans, zippers, excavate mines, diamonds, dumping trucks, wallpaper, zip lighters and 3D models.

6:00 Made a stir fry consisting of chicken, prawns, rice, peppers, onions, sweetcorn and mixed spices. Found out Im no Jamie Oliver. Thanked God.

7:00 Prepared the living room for a night of football. 6 bottles of miller, bowl of doritos (chilli pepper flavour) and a tub of Salsa dip and a big back of Malteser Whites.

7:30 - 10:00 Watched the soccer. Detested Liverpool. Made a hefty dent in my beer supply.

I liked the day. Nice and easy. I intend to do it again some time.

Pfft, Adorno clearly says that leisure time is merely there to continue involving oneself in capitalism, and that hobbies are a way of replacing work with work. Which you've shown with that excuse of a website :p (who the fuck is lamp???)

    I'm so tired...

Ways to kill Derek Mooney - make him watch all the Winning Streak he has ever presented back to back. That'd kill a Winning Streak addicted granny. I find Derek Mooney to be a condescending prick and can't stand how patronising he is to people he considers intellectually inferior because they're older/ of a rural background/ shy, nervous or intimidated by the cameras/ not him. Said Winning-Streak-athon would be even more cruel than chinese water torture. Slow and very, very painful.
