Saw this new Marvel comic book adaptation last night .
There won't be any Academy Awards for "Ghost Rider" however it is fun stuff, though, and very much in the spirit of the Marvel comic book of the same name. Nicolas Cage works well in the role; his dead-pan humor is well suited to the role of motorcycle stuntman Johnny Blaze.
Special effects are top notch and the storyline is quite decent with a bit of charm .
Eva Mendes is lovely as always.
It hasnt received the best critical reviews but it has done very well at the box office in the US.
I thought it was one of the best comic book adaptations of recent years.

It got released in America at the weekend. Critics slated it, but it had a decent opening weekend, about $50m I think.

The thing about comic book movies is we all have grown up with them, either on the small screen or in comics. The little kid in us all still wants to see the live action version of it, even if there is strong chance it will suck.

I heard Sam Elliot acted Cage off the screen...

I'm really looking forward to this. Despite actually disliking comics generally speaking, I always look particularly forward to adaptions regardless of what they're based on or whether they look good or not....

And a record box office for that particular weekend apparently - so there's probably a sequel already in the works (despite the crapness) ala Fantastic Four 2 :)

I seen it last Friday and it has to be the worst piece of trash I have seen in a long time, the action is terrible (actually theres little or no action), the bad guy sucks, the sfx are pretty crappy, its as cheesy as bejaysus...I'm not too critical of most movies but ya certainly don't need to be a movie critic to see that this is a stinker.

    Not difficult.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

At the rate Cage is going, an ACTUAL cage made of wood would act him off the screen.

Seen it too.the film just about kept my attention. with the usual Cage proformance but as its been said he did suits the role.
The bad guys were too easily beaten, Superman has had hard fight and he has every power, Ghost Rider only has fire! it could also have gone further into the backstory of the Ghost Rider.

Never been much of a fan of recent 'comic book' films, but i am a comic or rather Graphic Novel fan and this one doesnt rate at all. The idea of the character Ghost Rider is good i like my 'Super Heros' dark and no so well good like V for Vendetta. If they got a good graphic novel and let a director like Robert Rodriguez do it. But i suppose this agrument is probably kept for another board.

Glad i saw it now so i wont have to waste my money on it when it come out over here.

Given the type of film, I don't think it exactly calls for an Oscar-winning performance...

I have to go see this movie on opening day (my friend is a huge fan and its his birthday), however I'm not exactly looking forward to it.

seen it on pirate, yes yes i know but the bloody thing was meant to be out last year and some suit decided no so im fecked if im waiting longer to see a film i want. particularly seeing as nothings appealed to me lately.

its a bit of a miss match of wild west and supernatural but all in all it works. dont get me wrong its not art and its not going to win any awards but it does have spirit and it is a fun popcorn film so i'll be going to the cinema to watch it cause i like to support films i like.
i thought the special effects were good, johnny blazes first transformation into ghost rider in particular was very well done and might be a bit too disturbing for some. they did a very good job on the penance stare and visually the rider looks the biz, particularly on the bike.
being a fan of the book i know the rider is a different entity to johnny hence the hokey dialogue but all in all its a fairly faithfull translation of the comics various incarnations (yes to those that dont know there actually was a ghost rider cowboy incarnation but he wasnt of the flaming variety like in the movie, think he use to hang around with the two gun kid or something) and the johnny blaze origin is practically point for point what went on in the books. in fact they expanded on it greatly by connecting him to the whole extreme sports world so making him a celebrity instead of just a carny really works well.

some people were bitching about the digitizing of actors faces to put on demonic effects but i thought it was fairly cool and loved what it added to fonda's mephisto.

sam elliots plays a blinder in this cause he's cast as a character i hate and he got me to sympathise with him so he did good. and to be honest the only thing that really annoyed me was the feeling that the music was a little bit off. cant help thinking if they tweaked that a little more if wouldve created a better emotional resonance

like i said its not gonna win film of the year but theres sod all else out there at the moment in its genre so if your sick of the oscar wannabes and just fancy a bit of a terminatorish fun this could be your man :D:D

Just saw it and its pretty bad overall. The plot is weak to say the least and I felt it really drags in far to many places. Cage while an actor I like does suffer from being the same character in every movie he's in and GR suffers from this.

The effects were ok but if you have seen the trailer you have seen the best bits of the movie with a MUCH better musical score than the final version of the movies has.

As comic books adaptions go its not as bad as the last Punisher or Electra flicks and more on par with Daredevil or the Hulk but deffently no Spiderman or Xmen.

I enjoyed it, wasent what i thought it would be from the trailers but it was still a good watch and it wasent a waste of my time

was interested to see that the critics here aren't as harsh on ghost rider as their contemporaries in the states. wouldnt have anything to do with it raking in millions at the box office would it :D

I went into this expecting a silly, over the top, tongue in cheek action movie. It is absolutely awful though. Really really bad.

I wonder is cage's new hairline just for the role or permanent, think i'll google it.

Probably goin to go see it tonite, even though i know its gonna be shoite but i hear the transformation scenes are class.

nothin else on anyway that i havent seen.

I saw it on Friday and have to admit that I did enjoy it.

Sam Elliot and Peter Fonda deserved bigger parts and it would have been nice to see the two of them have a few scenes together. Cage seems to be playing the same character in every film these days, and Mendes's character was a waste of screen time.

The fight scenes were disappointing as they were basically all the same. Bad guy gets the upper hand till Ghost Rider wraps his chain around them. Cue bad guy disappearing.

Still I did enjoy the film and am looking forward to the inevitable sequel.

I was hoping for it to be fun in a bad sort of way. Instead it was bad in a really bad sort of way!
Those four 'elemental' henchmen were unbelievably useless.

    "BACK TO HELL!"

Worst film I have seen in the cinema in a very long time.

Oh dear.... Went to see it tonight and laughed out loud at how bad it was in parts. The storyline was more then a little flimzy and the main bad guy was about as threatening as a Care Bear.... That said it's probably the best acting Nicolas Cages hair has done since National Treasure.

    Wow!

Id like my money back please.....

I have to say that I fairly enjoyed it. Silly and stupid it is, but it was also fairly fun.

Its a hairpiece, took 3 hours to put on each day !

I was disappointed. I expected it to be cheesy as hell, but I thought the action would make up for it. It didn't. I don't think the Ghostrider cgi was smooth enough for decent action scenes. The elemental bad guys were disposed of much too quickly.
Although I laughed my ass off when
during their first encounter, the guy just ploughed Nic Cage over with the truck. Like, out of nowhere!

Did Black Heart remind anyone else of Derek Zoolander? Just his mannerisms!
    "Just like I'm gonna retire....YOU!"

Awful dialogue. And a possible contender for silliest bad guys in cinematic history. But meh, it was alright for what it's supposed to be!

you know thats what i feel about it too. i mean honestly where else could you go with ghost rider without making it a full on horror film? that mightve been cool but i cant help thinking it wouldve taken the fun out of the film and theres no way in hell my brother could take his 12yr old daughter to see it (which shes dying to see by the way, she loves this kinda stuff)

i think alot of people forget theres a whole generation of people out there that arent being catered for that much in the cinema if they dont like stuff like "cars" :D

ya gotta admit though the scene in the prison cell was cool, practically looked like he steped out of the comic there.

I usually enjoy films like this but Ghost Rider was awful, there is no other word that can be used to describe it. The Dialogue and plot were terrible. I wouldnt have minded if the action was decent but it wasnt.

    Terrible terrible movie.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 731 ✭✭✭Madge

It was pure cheese. I'm not familiar with the character of 'Johnny Blaze' so I'm not sure if Cage portrayed him accurately or not. As said the transformation scenes are class, it was cool when
his body went on fire, esp. his head!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,573 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

it was a major disappointment was expecting much more
