Mario Kart 64 Update ??

don't know if this has been discussed anywhere,or how long the update has been up..
But, did anyone notice that there was a downloadable update for Mario Kart 64 on VC ?
Not sure what's been updated, most likely the video emulation........would love to fire up the original, but my US copy was stolen years ago

I noticed a bug while playing it (pre-update), where duing a race one of the characters appeared right in front of me before disappearing (graphical glitch)........would have liked to explain it as a ghost pickup, but he was in last place
Don't remember anything like that in the original, hopefully it was just a once off0 -
