Tips for improving Mac performance?

Hey guys, I've been using my Mac Mini (10.4.7, 1.25gigs RAM, 1.83 Intel Core Duo) here at work for a while now and I've noticed it getting more and more sluggish of late, I was wondering if anyone has tips for improving its performance. For example, right now I'm using Mail, Firefox, Xcode, Terminal, Skype and iTunes, none of which i'd consider very memory intensive, and the little Activity Monitor pie chart says I only have about a hundred megs of free RAM. Dashboard and Exposé are very slow to respond and even the volume controls often take a couple of seconds to respond. Any tips/links for getting rid of some of this sluggishness? Thanks!

download ONYX ( google) and run it. Also you could go into disk utiity and repair permissions on the macintosh HD.

The sluggishness is probably more due to the processor than the RAM, so is they're anything in Activity monitor that's hogging the cpu?

Recently my imac was getting very slow and refusing to spin down the hd or sleep. I discovered a background HP manager app for my scanner that was using up to 10% of the CPU and 2GB of virtual memory. And the scanner wasn't even connected.

I'd recommend upgrading to 2GB RAM.

    I found this app yesterday:

    http://www.macdentro.com/MacDentro/Home.html

It runs the system maintainence tasks that mac would usually run at night, but it also clears chaches, repairs permissions etc. Haven't really used it yet though!
