Does anyone know when the LUAS extention to the Point will be completed . Also when Upper and Lower Mayor Streets will be connected. They'll have to build a bridge across the Canal ,not much going on there at the moment.

Scheduled for 2009, but I wouldn't hold your breadth.

The two streets will probably be linked quite soon as apartment development is proceeding quickly. The Luas is further off, which is stupid as Spencer Dock train station is about to open and will have no proper integration with any other rail mode until the Luas is finished.

Its a 1.5km spur. Really, it shouldnt take anything like this long.

Even with Luas it still won't be integrated.

its 5 minutes walk - it takes that long to get from the Luas to Connolly platform 7 and nobody complains about that.

Lots of the 'pre' works has begun through the IFSC on Mayor Street. The RPA are down here most days with subcontractors doing exploratory work on the road.

At least with the HGV ban the loss of traffic flow on Mayor street can be absorbed by Custom House Quay.

This beggars the question will this be the first part of any LUAS track to travel through private property, Mayor Street from Commons Street to Amiens Street being private property.

Not in my experience, or the other 100s of people I see do it every day. Average 90 to 120 seconds.

Slightly OT but will one be able to take a tram from the Point to the Green in one journey once Line BX is in place or will one have to change at Abbey?

Would you classify James Hospital as private property?

Re. Mayor Street as private property, see Schedule 6 of the Railway Order (pp. 143) which indicates that they will become 'public roads' within the meaning of the 1993 Roads Act by virtue of this order.

Public roads which may be altered
    Area 16
    1. That part of Mayor Street Lower to the east of Commons Street
    2. Commons Street
    Area 17
    1. Mayor Street lower
    2. Guild Street
3 That part of Mayor Street Upper to the east of New Wapping Street
    4. New Wapping Street
    5. Castleforbes Road

The above roads are in the charge of Dublin City Council.

Schedule 7 sets out the exact rights to be acquired.

I was at the inquiry at it was quite clear that a plot of land which was to be CPO'ed was not to be as the owner had granted wayleave to the RPA for a tram line, thus part of the line runs on private lands

Excuse me while I bump this one - it's clear the line will be ready by 2009 as they're at the track laying phase now. But is there any sign of a more accurate date?

I'm very happy to be proven wrong, the RPA website still says end of 2009:

I don't think a direct service is part of the current plan.

Yes, but how difficult to run a bus between the green and connolly...then again we have muppets in charge.

Its called the 128, runs about every 10 minutes from Clongriffen to Rathmines. The southbound stop is next to the Luas stop in Connolly.

One at Eden Quay at Harbour Court and I think opposite Connolly Luas - I don't know if it stops in between.

Is there any update on the operating date for this service? I know the planned date is 2009, but are we near completion?

    no.

the IFSC section is still a building site. They're supposedly about to start laying track here, they've alreadys started in Spencer Dock and at the point, but they then have to put up the wiring, build the platforms, reinstate the roads and test. It'll be another year. Its a hell of a lot of time and effort for a 2km line that will make damn-all difference to city traffic.

Track works are scheduled to be completed by mid year. By end of year all overhead cabling, traffic signals, systems etc should be completed. Outside chance of service being up and running by end of 2009 but more likely this time next year...

The line should hopefully bring a lot to the docklands. It won't benefit the city as such in providing an arterial route. But it will provide for the regeneration of a prime inner city area, even if this regeneration is being potentially compromised by the current economic climate.

I heard a news eport during the week that this work is ahead of schedule and the line should be running by December.

    Is this the case?

The schedule completion is 2009 so I can't see how it will be ahead of schedule.

Three years for 2km is some achievement anyhow, considering half of it is through a building site
