i have ntl cable and the digital pack,.......

now, the digital is about 2 seconds delayed in comparison to the cable.
i.e if i am watching ITV on cable and switch to digital , the timing is delayed .

i need to know if i go to sky, is that the most "instant" coverage ?.... or is the old cable the most instant.

    Many thanks,

    B-hop

It's the MPEG encoding & Decoding.

Sky is more delayeda as it as the 90,000 km round trip from space. Of course if NTL source someting from Satellite, then they can be even more behind.

I'd trade for Satellite quality rather than abysmal quality 1.5 second sooner analogue cable anyday.

Im just wondering why 2 seconds matters? is there a prectile reason to need it faster?

If the neighbours are watching a match, you could hear them scream if there is a goal before you see it!

Actually... I was watching the Simpsons on Digital once, my flat mate was watching it on Analogue. It was really irritating as she kept laughing before the joke.

well,.... i gamble, generally harbouring bets i.e I buy a market for 1.5 units and sell the market for 1.3 units.
markets like "no more goals" in a soccer game , or another example is during the snooker , if i am putting 100 euros on a player - who has just missed his shot, then i need to know about it asap !! preferbly before the bet is executed.

please dont give out to me for gambling,.... just wondering if analogue is always quicker than digital ?????
if i got sky in and found it to be behind, i would have to cancel that same day and go back to analogue

    1) Analogue is doomed. Except maybe for RTE reception
    2) Digital is less than 2s behind real life
    3) I don't believe commercial betting is open up until 2s before the event.
    4) Why would you need to bet less than 2m before an event never mind 2s?

    5) Analogue may soon be sourced from Digital transmissions (UK will be turning off analogue) so even if RTE & NTL keep analogue, the Analogue signal will also be delayed.

thanks a million,...so would i be better off with sky package or ntl ?

betting restarts when events begin,.... and are active up untill the final whistle.
have a look at betfair(dotcom) to understnd what i mean.

    anyhow thanks for the replys,....

btw why is analogue being done away with????

Because you can fit about 3 HDTV channels, 30 Broadband users or 10 regular TV channels, using digital, into the space of one Analogue channel. (not all at same time though!)

Also while Analogue can do true 16:9 anamorphic, that won't happen. 16:9 (Widescreen) is only on Digital.
