So everybody has probably heard about it at this stage, so I was wondering how costly do you think it will be to his career? From what I've heard, he had another job lined up, did/would they still take him on?

Anyone see him doing seminars in how to email in work? ;)

If it were me, I'd be seriously p!ssed with myself........but I think the person/people who forwarded it on wouldn't exactly be on the top of my buddy list.

It says in one of the links that his new employers were forwarded the email. Whoops...
Seems he didn't even write it himself either.

It was a bad joke that was sent to too many people. I mean, if you're going to send a joke "scathing" farewell, then only send it to the people that are going to get it, i.e. your mates and maybe your department. Sending it to everyone in the business is a sure way for it to snowball into a much bigger deal than it actually was.

In reality, management in E&Y weren't that perturbed, but HR and Marketing had heart attacks.

I don't think it will be too costly. Assuming that E&Y will still give him an official reference after his apology, no-one will remember his name in a year's time.
