has anyone tried the gillian mckieth 24hr detox....i've just taken the first sachet. I know i'm going to get slack for this but i've just now looked up the net on it and apparantly the process of detox with this system is horrific. I just read the back of the box and the ingredients and it said nothing about what would happen after i took it. Its been a half an hour and my tumy feels a little off but nothing crazy ......yet.....anyone have any experience with it?

Its a product on a shelf,...i read the leaflet thoroughly and there's nothing on the ingredients list i'm not familiar with except Donq Quai Root and Silica. i think silica is salicilate and prob just helps mobilise stools......ew. Anyway its not that stupid a thing to do. I bought it in the health shop and it doesn't mention anything about exploding on the pack......

.....god I hope that doesn't happen daveym

Is there anybody you would like us to contact after you have passed?
No only joking, but I have never trusted this woman, you just have to take one look at her and you know there is something up.

lol i'm really hoping it doesn't come to that....I am nervous though. Its been an hour now though and nothing,....the powder was disgusting,.....i gagged after every mouthful. I've to take three more. One tonight, and two in the morning. Also have to take a glass of grapefruit juice with olive oil in it tonight too.

    :(

Not sure i trust her now either.

Detox diets and regimes are one of the biggest scams out there (along with probiotics and colonic irrigation)

It sounds like you might be about to have a serious dose of the runs after taking that sachet :D But that won't "detox" you or do anything for you.

My advice is to eat as healthily as you can all the time and forget about about "purging" "detoxing" or "flushing" regimes as they are basically a load of crap.

A couple of weeks ago there was an interesting progamme on BBC called "The Truth About Food". They did a reasonably scientific evaluation of detox diets. If you can find the programme it's quite informative.

Now that you've started this Gillian McKeith diet you might as well see it through if it's only 24 hours. Just be sure to have plenty of toilet paper handy :)

i used to think this about colonics, but have been interested lately by the fact that it has long been a part of yoga techniques. (diy irrigation) Haven't tried it myself but the fact it isn't just a new thing does lend it some credence in my view..

Well it's been two hours now I think....Can't remember checking the time but i reckon i took the first sachet at six. Took the second one ten minutes ago,.....I swear i think sewer water may taste better. Other than that there's been no movement yet.

A friend of mine bought a set of three colonics and she's had two of them so far. She reckons your body is on a high for a week after it. Another friend had one on medical advice and got a serious bowel infection which landed her in hospital. I'm not sure how common that is though.

Anyway i'm dubious about the effectiveness of these sachets. When you take into consideration that they are so vile, the results would really want to be magnificant. I have a strong stomach and i rarely if ever need to vomit/puke. I retched after every tiny mouthful.

i really want to do the detox to kickstart a healthy lifestly regime. Started back running last week too!

they may not do much but I seriously doubt they will do you any harm, personally I think plenty of exercise and plenty of fruit is the way to go...

Sorry for the stupidity of this question, but what exactly are these detox things meant to do for you?

Gillian McKeith is a quack extraordinaire. Go here for a good critique of her particular brand of new-age nutritionist nonsense.

Well king of the rodeo, I would love to explain that. however, I'm afraid that the graphic nature of what i've just experienced may be too distressing to read, an for that reason i'm unwilling to post it in too much detail here.

However, without the gore, its supposed to clean out your digestive tract, from your stomach right through your bowel and out of your system.

    Its working.

    i wouldn't recomend it

Colonic Irrigation for a week? WTF?

I would be inclined to go with modern Medical Science here. Pikalax or similar is used for patients going gor a Colonoscopy (camera up the hole)

If there was any blockage to view the medical community would be well pissed!

Pikalax (spelling) or Clean Prep will have you like a newborn Colon in hours, nothing left inside so Yah Boo Sux to those veggies and their claims of pounds of meat in my Colon! All clean and ready to replace that meat waste! ;)

Are Klean prep and picolax not only available on prescription? Anyway, i know klean Prep is anaseed flavour and after the disasterous sambuca incident of 2001 i can't get that into me. Yuck

    <dons pedantic hat>
Silica is SiO2 aka quartz, glass, opal, sand .... depending on crystalline form
Salicilate is probably salicylate misspelt and is ortho-C6H4(OH)CO2- a derivative of salicylic acid and plant hormone most often associated as one of the building materials for aspirin.
