The USI are organising a march from the Front Square in Trinity College to the Dept. of Health on March 1st 2007 starting at 12:30pm. We will also have guest speakers.

The march is in protest of the IBTS refusal to accept blood from men who have had sex with men (MSM).

The Minister for Health & Childern, Mary Harney in a letter to USI LGBT Rights' Officer, Steve Conlon stated when questioned on her position in relation to the MSM Blood Ban that she 'agrees that the IBTS must enforce strict deferral criteria in order to protect the health of recipients of blood and blood products'

USI will be calling on the Minister to immediately introduce a Working Group to examine the MSM Blood Ban and to accept expert and public submissions.

USI will also be holding an all night vigil outside the Dept. of Health and Childern to show its conviction on this issue.

If you would like to take part in the march and rally outside the Dept. of Health, or indeed the vigil please contact Steve Conlon, USI LGBT Rights' Officer at lgbt@usi.ie
