Lets get a little more positive about videogame bosses. What are your favourite videogame bosses.

    Contra Shattered Soldier
A homage to the brilliant Contra Hard Corps. This giant robot from the end of stage 2 harasses you on the train. Love how he dies at the end. The boss appears at 10:40 in the video below. The guy finishes him off very quickly so you don't see all his attakcs.

    Radiant Silvergun
The R-type homage from stage 1. This boss has an invincible force pod and all hte attacks from R-type 1 and 2 as well as both charge up shots. Being a R-type homage would have made it legendary in my books on it's own but it's also a great fight that still gives me trouble.
    4:50

    Rocket Knight Adventures
The best boss fight from a game full of original and excellent boss encounters. Being chased by the huge robot was frightening before you figured it out and getting your own back in your own robot was brilliant karma :)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0S16SNkUDFQ

    R-type
Stage 3 is just one big boss battle. You fly around a massive battleship before taking the core out. Strategic force placement is a must. Couldn't find a youtube video so here is the equally good walker boss/level from R-tyep Delta
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcux1e3BAHc

    Einhander
A very lively and kinetic boss fight. Love the mid boss of this level as well. The music in this game is amazing.

    Resident Evil 4
The troll boss. Love this boss fight. I love how he destroys the huts you try to hide in and picks up the trees to damage you. I love it when a boss interacts with the enviroment. The QCTs are great as well. It's great when he grabs you and you have to stab him in the hand with the knife.

The fight in the burning barn. Just when you think he is dead he comes after you without his legs :) Lovely atmospheric fire effects

    Metal Gear Solid
Psycho Mantis of course. He is so cool he can control the controller with hios mind.

    Zant : Zelda Twilight Princess
A superb boss that makes you go back and use all the weapons you've obtained over the last 30 odd hours. Still quite easy, but very clever all the same
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3BGL9z-i2w

    The End : MGS3
I'd include a video here but it would be extremely long and boring to watch. But really a one of a kind boss which actually feels like a proper stealthy stake-out. It took me ages to sneak up behind him and hold him up for the uber-camoflague he packs.

Opening Battle : Beyond Good and Evil
Not difficult but oozes style and sets the tone perfectly for the game to come
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iQNyW-gqZk

    J-E-N-O-V-A : FF7
The most moving moment in video games occurs and before you have a chance for it to sink in you are thrown head first into a battle. You can almost feel the anger. Em spoilers for anyone who hasnt played the game.

My mind's gone blank at the moment...but here goes:

The big flying worm fella - Shadow of the Colossus
This game was just a ream of boss fights, and this one was my favourite. Absolutley massive, great action music, and it uses the various elements well (bow, Agro, clinging on for dear life). Sums up the enjoyable action packed feel of the game beautifully.

The End - Metal Gear Solid 3
Already mentioned, but what a boss fight. I also went for his gun and camo first time, and I reckon I spent over an hour facing him - Obviously not so tough once you get the hang of it, but I was crawling everywhere, trying to take potshots at him with the m9. Just a wonderful bit of immersive gameplay.

Final Battle with Sephiroth - Final Fantasy 7
Spoiler warning I guess. This battle wasn't epic, or even difficult...in fact it might be impossible to lose. But it's perfect for the story and I love it.

Muro (I think that was his name) from Ninja Gaiden when he has the Nunchucks. it took me about 20 tried to finish him the first time, due mostly to the fact I was still getting used to the game controls.

Volvagia (dunno how to spell it) from Orcarina Of Time. what a fantastic fight, epic is not the word.

Yup, colossus no. 5 if i remember right. That was the very definition of 'epic boss fight'. Probably the single most amazing boss ive ever fought against.
Actually, now i think about it no 5 was the flying bird, i think no. 9 or so was the flying sand worm. Both were incredible tho.

    Meta Ridley in metroid prime
Evil shogun kunitoki in last ninja 2
    Shambler in quake 1
loads others i cant remember...

The City in the Sky boss from Twilight Princess, not especially tough but really enjoyable and the fact that you're up so high.

King DeDeDe in any incarnation. From his title music to the boss fight at the end of Kirby's Dreamland in the wrestling right, awesome.

Thardus and Meta-Ridley from Metroid Prime, both kinda tough and both really involving. Ridley's fight involved a lot more jumping around and timing but the switching visors and beams against Thardus is a great experience.

Any boss in Paper Mario 2. Cortez, the dragon, Lord Crump, Rawk, the Shadow Sirens and so on... brilliant stuff and always an element of humour.

...and maybe a bit of Revolver Ocelot too.

For whatever reason, the final boss in streets of rage 1 springs to my mind. About a year ago myself and my mate were on a bit of a nostalgia trip and decided to play the whole game again, start to finish. When we eventually got to the last boss he asked us did we want to work for him. We were like 'work for him? yeah that sounds cool. Lets do it'. I was under the assumtion that there would then be an evil ending but NOOOOOOOOO! The boss shows his appreciation for us by opening a trap door under our feet that sends us back 3 or 4 levels. We were like 'WTF?!'. Ah sure, you learn something new everyday I suppose.

Anyways while looking for video of this on youtube I came across this:

    http://www.bombergames.net/sorr_e.htm

Its a remake of streets of rage! Its freeware also.

I always liked the boss in MGS I think it was 1 where it was a great big feckin robot that has some bloke trapped against a wall and you have to kill it pain in the ass boss but I always thought he was deadly.

Not exactly a remake but close enough. The people who made it combined all (?) the levels from Streets of Rage 1, 2 and 3 into one big game and stuck a fair few of the characters in too. I've enjoyed many an hour playing it.

    More like number 14.

My favourite colossus was 3. The biggest one of the lot with a small head and when he leans over and you are hanging from his head it was awesome.

The beserker battle from the end of the first act in Gears of war. was so intense it reminded me of somethin out of Resi 4

The big tall fella in the barn in resi 4

    Meta ridley in Metroid prime

Ganondorf in wind waker just for the amazing finish on him in an apparently 3+ game :D

The beserker boss in GOW was garbage. Typical american developed game from a company that can't make decent bosses you have to shoot and instead goes for a dreadful (blatantly obvious) puzzle boss. Not far off the quake 1 bosses in terms of ****ness.

I've always had a soft spot for mecha-robotnik at the end of sonic2. It's a great big honkin' robot. A great big honkin' SPACE robot.
    And the music was great.

Most of the bosses from NiGHTS on the saturn as well, especially Puffy, Gilwing, Reala and Wiseman himself, and once again, great music from them.

And Von Karma from Phoniex Wright, if he could be called a boss. Just cos i really hated that guy, but in a good way.

The One Winged Angel. Truly apocalyptic. He detonates the sun...

Maybe it was mostly the music though...
