Disappointing. I know DB don't have much control over their fares but I'd imagine if they wanted to leave the pre-paid tickets alone, the DoT wouldn't stop them. If the tickets were cheaper (especially the two trip tickets which have no saving at all), more people might use them, dwell time would fall and buses would be more effecient. Would it be that hard to do?

Also it's a rubbish press release. What are the new prices (other than the Airlinks)? The website still lists the old prices. Do we have to guess?

Markpb,we live in a VERY strange little country.
Mr Eddie Hobbs has shown that most clearly as he attempted to point out the simplest of financial pitfalls to an apparently stupified populace.

One of THE most interesting things EVER to be learned by CIE/Dublin Bus came many years ago now when AFAIR the old 10 journey and some 2 journey pre-paid tickets which DID have a discount were finally increased in price to eliminate any differential.

This was decided by an increasingly cash-strapped board as the only method available to raise an income stream. (Pre-Paid Ticket Rates are NOT directly controlled by the Dept)

The company was prepared for a decrease in sales and usage BUT were totally flummoxed when not alone did sales remain static BUT usage even began to creep upward.

An Irish reaction to an Irish problem mayhap ?????

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

Wow! Daily bus only tickets have gone from 5 euro to 6 euro. Thats some increase. 2.3% yeah?

That's hardly an incentive to use them. The same amount of trips is now more expensive even though the cash fares have gone up too. Well done DB!

more like 20% as one euro (the difference between 6 and 5) is the fifth part of five euros...
    that's really some increase!

2.3% only applies to the totality of revenue, not individual routes. Also, some ticket classes are not price regulated which may be why DB are looking to make more money from them.

Considerring cash fares went up by 3%, I would have assumed pre-paid fares would go up by roughly the same. The new prices make pre-paid tickets even less value than they were before.

By this stage we should all understand that since Dublin Bus gets little or no cash from the DoT that the only way to gain revenues is to jack up the price of unregulated tickets

Now you can't blame them for that after all as a business they have to make ends meet.

Martin 'photo op' Cullen is to blame for the whole disaster, he has the power to solve the whole thing tomorrow by funding Dublin Bus to euro standard levels

But you can buy 5 for €17.50 = €3.50 each
