Aer Lingus Online

Does anybnody know what the story is with online seat reservation/check in for flights booked with travel agents?

I've got an Aer Lingus to London Heathrow flight booked with a travel agent as the first leg of a flight to Bangkok. I can see my Aer Lingus booking reference number on the agents website, but when I go to log into the Aer Lingus site, it says that the departure airport does not match the departure airport on the ticket?

Also, since I can't login on the website, I'm not able to prebook a bag, which means I'll be charged extra at the airport, right?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think you can use online check-in for travel agent tickets.

Is the flight to Bangkok on the same ticket as the Dublin to Heathrow flight? If so then you shouldn't pay a baggage charge as they don't apply to those connecting on to another airline on the same ticket. If it's a seperate ticket from the rest of your journey, then yes you may have to pay baggage fees.

    Thanks for the response BuffyBot.

I don't mind having to pay the Aer Lingus baggage charge too much, all I really want to do is be able to reserve a seat online. The Shannon-London flight is the start of about 28 hours of travelling that day, so I was hoping to be able to get an emergency exit/bulkhead seat to try and have some amount of comfort on at least one of the flights that day. I'll ask my travel agent about it on Monday anyway.

If its a thru fare from Shannon to Bangkok on one ticket then the Aer Lingus sectors were not booked on the Aer Lingus website but thru the agents reservation system. These bookings can not have their seats prebooked but you will not be charged for baggage on these either.

so I was hoping to be able to get an emergency exit/bulkhead seat

You generally can't select those online anyway. They are normally reserved for physical check in.
