Online share dealing commission (compared with UK)

I lived in UK and traded shares online (Barclays) and paid a £15 fee per trade with no additional charges/commission. I now live in Ireland but still have UK share account (using my Irish address).

I recently realised that if I open an Irish share trading account with Davy's or similar that I will pay commission of .5% (ish).

I have significant sums to invest and if I trade in Ireland my fees/commission could be over €1,000 compared to £15 in UK.

Am I missing something? Why should I trade in Ireland when I still have my UK account? Why should anybody trade in Ireland?
