Got the Jap version early in the week, but didn't have a chance to sit down with it until now....only payed 20mins or so, so don't take anything as gospel..

Seems pretty good, looks nice enough, especially animation and character scale.
There are more than a few hints of jaggies during rounds and intros..
No more than most other next-gen games, but its a wee bit disappointing..

Does appear to be a 720p rendered game despite the back cover stating 480p,720p,1080i,1080p........the US version cover only carries 720p, which lends credence to 720p rendering.
There were early reports around whether or not the game uses the newly accessible hardware scaler in the PS3 (jury still out on whether or not that is the case, or whether it really exists).
Huge debate over this in the likes of AVS Forum.
I've never had some of the resolution issues that some PS3 owners have had, especially in the US, so it looks likely that the game is 720p.
A 1080p display may, in some small way, show up the appearance of said jaggies, but its no worse than the likes of DOA4 for example..

Gameplay follows the same VF tried and tested formula, so its as deep as any river.......cannot judge it compared to the others yet.

It also installed close to 2.3gb worth a game data to the PS3 HDD when first loaded up, obviously to cut down on level loading etc..
There is still a bit of a delay between fights, but nothing really extreme or annoying.

Seems a very worthy game to pick up at launch all the same.
