Have an idea of connecting MacBook to television (crt, has S-video/scart inputs) to watch video files.

Had a look at the apple store for a mini-DVI to S-video adapter, but couldn't find one. Is there one available or do I need two adapters etc.

    Thanks!

    Can't say it's something I've heard of.

S-Video is horrible quality though. There is an S-Video output on my Powerbook and I've never gotten satisfactory results from it.

I use one of these. Lets me stream media wirelessly from my mac to the TV. It supports HD too. A little pricey, but it works really well.

What you're looking for is an Apple mini-dvi to Video adapter. Like this

It doesn't say it's macbook compatible though, but it does on the U.S. site, here

If I were you I'd confirm with Apple first before buying. Hope these links work.

You'll also need an s-video cable of course.

Thanks guys! That cable looks like the one!

So s-video from macbook is a bit of a last resort quality wise?

monkeyfudge, that snazzio box looks interesting - what price and where do you get it. How have you found it?

s-vid is grand if you are just watching videos. for viewing text, internet etc.. its not the best. i have to use s-vid on one of my tvs as well cos thats the only option and vids look great.

    moe

ps whats the price of that snazzio thing?? if its really expensive keep in mind the apple tv at €299

It works out at about €265. Not sure what the delivery charges would be on top of that.

The important thing about it is that you can stream DIVX files to it... is that possible with Apple TV? You can also plug a USB Hard drive into it and play files directly from there.

It's worked great for me anyway. I have come across a few DIVX files that it has trouble with though, these tend to be anime for some reason. But I just burn them down to DVD and can play them in a €40 DIVX player I got in Lidl.

Oh yes... and the Snazi can also access your iTunes library wirelessly too.

yeah the apple tv can play anything once you get the proper plugin. it streams from the computer so its down to if it plays on the computer then it will play on apple tv

Big problem for me with apple tv is that it only support HD interface or component-out. So for older TVs with scart or s-video it's no good.

Snazio hence looks interesting. See it for €299 inc postage from UK. Might be an option.
